The Devotional – A look at Psalm 65

Comment: One of the many things that can be observed from reading and meditating on the Psalms is that mankind has always desired to dwell in the Courtyard of His Creator. We see this in Psalm 65 clearly as David praises God for His Good News and future Providence. “Even so; Come Lord Jesus” ought to be on the lips of all of God’s children. Yes, we have daily activities that are purposeful and productive, but we ought always to be ready for the “calling out” of the saints of God. Calling us home, not one by one, but by the RAPTURE of the church of Christ (Messiah) and the end of this dispensation. Let me also say, that if you are not praying and meditating on the Living Word of God, then you are not interested in the RAPTURE. I say to you… SHAME ON YOU! Life on the earth these days is not getting better! The cure: John 14:1-6.

Devotional: While praying and meditating with the LORD, have you ever said “I will praise the LORD”! Of course you have, but did you know that this is a VOW. According to the Hebrew word used by David in Psalm 65:1, saying such in prayer is making a “promised deed” to God. Okay you say and yes we do praise God, but what about as the day progresses. Even the unbelieving can and do praise the LORD but their own iniquities prevail against them, as do ours prevail against us at times. God has provided atonement for all sins as you know, trust and believe that Jesus the Christ died for the sins of the world, John 1:29.

Yet and notice this, Psalm 65:4-8. Blessed is the man or woman whom God has chosen and allowed to approach Him that he or she can dwell in His courts. Yes, we read this truth from SCRIPTURE, but does this truth find residence in our SOUL? Our soul ought to rejoice as it is being SATISFIED with the GOODNESS that prevails from God’s Throne in His Holy temple as we pray and mediate on Him through His Word.

When our promised deeds are truly focused on our Awesome God, we are completing the Righteous standards of God the Holy Spirit (In Christ). That is fulfilling our vows to God the Father and He readily answers us, after all, is not God our Father also the God of our salvation? Yes, He is God, The Eternal God and He is our CONFIDENCE, even the confidence of all the ends of the earth. He is God of the seas and the mountains, He is clothed with power and strength to sustain all LIFE. Even to the farthest parts of the world, all peoples are afraid of the power of God. Yet the mornings and the evenings and Creation shout PRAISE for the ever presence sustaining Power of God.

We will stop here for this morning, but there ought not be a moment in time on any day in the life of God’s children that we fail to “Praise God”. For He alone has designed “Life in Christ and sustained Creation to rejoice over the power of His Hand to lead, guide and direct our day to His Glory, see Romans 8:18-30, you will be glad you did and so will the LORD Jesus.

The Devotional – A look at Psalm 64

Comment: If you are a child of God, you no doubt like to pray to Him. In many ways prayer is much like communicating with your parents, especially your father. Hopefully your dad is/was a good man and easy to talk with, but if he was stern or showed a lack of interest in you and the rest of the family, the stress of conversing with him would prevent a close relationship. Deeds of the flesh would prevail and the deed of faithfulness would be rejected. In this Psalm of David as he is being oppressed by the wicked reveals that God is PERSONAL and MERCIFUL, but in order for us to experience God this way we must be willing to PRAY and MEDITATE with God. That is, we must be willing to CONSIDER God’s answer as we pour out our complaint.

Devotional: Most days of our lives we have a complaint, we always seem busy complaining to God about the enemy. The enemy could be a relative, a friend, co-worker or even our own personal self. Our desires to have things our own way often rub people the wrong way. Sometimes we are charged with wrong doing when our intentions may have been good, but good to what degree? Good for you, good for me or good for someone else, in the end our motivation to do good is often observed as selfish.

We understand that David, King of Israel had international enemies, but he also had enemies with his family, friends and the kingdom staff. He was surrounded by people who sharpened their tongues like a sword and bent their bows to shoot arrows at him with BITTER, backbiting WORDS. We would be extremely naïve to believe that this condition of mankind’s heart was absent in our daily routine of living life before God and man.

Thus, what should we do? Shall we too be bitter, backbiting and rebellious with one another, or can we be different? Yes, yes we can and ought to be DIFFERENT than the rest of the world. Prayer and meditation with God is our PROTECTION. God changes the COURSE of any FEAR we may have of man. David states clearly that God shall shoot at them with ONE arrow, the enemy will suddenly be wounded, they will stumble over their own tongue and the fear of others will drive them away (no one will help them).

Yes, the righteous acts of God’s children, that is those who are clothed in Christ’s Righteousness will be glad in the LORD because they through PRAYER and MEDITATION have learned to trust God. The joy and rejoicing of the saints of God will glorify God as they see God answering pray. The wicked are stopped in their pursuit of perfecting a SHREWD SCHEME as their iniquities are not secret to God. Both the inward thoughts of man and the outward results of man heart (while deep) are very visible to our Creator.

Comment: David the King of Israel wrote in Psalm 61 – “Hear my cry, O GOD; attend to my prayer.” Have you not been in this need yourself from time to time and have you not seen the results? Most all of the Children of God, that is; those who are “born again” have (more than once) called upon God to attend (to do something about) my prayer. God from anywhere in or on the earth hears the heart of His children who are overwhelmed with trouble. I have such days in life myself and I know as David did that God is a very present help in times of danger and need. Now I do not seek to compare myself with David, my only intent is that you may know that when you cry out to the ROCK that is higher than US. He leads us in safe passage to the shelter of His Everlasting arms.

Devotional: When we abide in Christ our LORD we are sheltered safely. Christ is the stronghold, a mighty fortress, a bulwark that never ceases to protect. Such protection is foreign to world around us, in the times of David the sanctuary or tabernacle was a physical tent, yet King David is actually looking at the tabernacle not made with hands whose builder and maker is Jesus Christ. David understood that to be overwhelmed was to show a lack of trust in the shelter of God.

When we cry out to God for protection, He immediately reminds us that we are His child, He comforts us by His Word of promise, “I will never leave you, nor will I forsake you” thus we are sheltered in TRUTH, now I ask you! What could be better than that?” Immediately we are struck with PEACE, a peace that is far ahead of our understanding to comprehend it. Such a peace is too wonderful, for if I turn to the right or left, the Peace of God is there. I cannot out run the peace of God and if I stop and praise God, His peace remains with me.

In this psalm, David considers many foundational truths about his personal position in God’s sheltering arms. (1) he is physically and spiritually safe, (2) God has heard and answered his prayers, (3) his heritage as a child of God is eternal, it cannot be taken away. (4) all of these truths are based on a proper FEAR of the LORD. Awe, respect and knowledge that God CANNOT lie. We who FEAR the NAME of God do not shutter in ungodly fear, thus we are protected from the world and our years on earth are often prolonged as the LORD God is our protective shield.

In all, we ought always to sing praise to God as His Name is blest forever, we ought always to pray to God and meditate on the Character of God. We have this as a daily responsibility to pray, asking God to attend to our prayers. Why? The spiritual battles of the day are powerful and only God can intercede for us.
