Comment: This morning I was ready to deliver a different challenge to meditate on the Living God. However; based on current events I have changed my mind. We are all called of God to “Run the Race”, some Bible scholars preach or teach daily the need for every believer to fix their eyes on Jesus. He alone is the Author of personal faith in God. Yes, He obeyed the laws of the land and fulfilled the Law given to Moses, His Faith was in God, not the nation or the religion. We need to notice something in this thought that is very important for all of us. Jesus is the originator and the perfecter of FAITH, why then would we want to focus our faith on a religion or a nation as many of us do today in Christendom? God has called us (you and me) to run this same “race” that Jesus ran. Not only did Jesus run the race that was sat before Him, but there are many witnesses, like a cloud in the sky of people who have done the same. Hebrews 12:1-2. Are you in that cloud today?

Devotional: The days in which we live are EVIL, this is not a new message or thought, yet somehow it is a message that does not penetrate anyone’s mind these days. We are a nation of apostate Christians, we are living in times of ‘stress’. Christian men love themselves and money more than God. They are proud boasters, blasphemers. They are rude and reject parental authority, they are unthankful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, they are full of slander, without self-control and brutal. They are traitors of Christ faith, headstrong, haughty, loving the pleasures of the world rather than loving God who created them.

If the apostle Paul under the guidance of the Holy Spirit were talking about the unbelieving world, this would be a matter we saints might understand.  But, Paul is talking about those who profess to be saved by grace. If you do not know this already, I am referring to 2 Timothy 3:1-9, now notice verse 5 – having the form of godliness but DENYING its power. And from such people TURN AWAY! I will leave you to read the remaining four verses while I comment.

The destiny of man, at its very best is TEMPORAL, while man would like to think that he or she is improving by always learning. Without personal faith, they are NEVER able to come to the knowledge of the TRUTH. Every generation seeks to re-invent truth, then when invented they spread their cancerous lies into households, captivating people already loaded down with besetting sins and lustful passions.

We live in times of men with corrupt minds, they are disapproved by God concerning FAITH because they are temporal in projecting truth that they fail to believe themselves and their progress fails. Set your mind on things (Spirituality) above, not on things (carnality) of the earth, see Colossians 3:1-11.

A Weekly Devotional – Wide or Narrow – Personal Meditation

Comment: Even though I was participating in the prayer, I was like an observer! “Our Father who art in heaven…” mostly all male voices reciting the LORD’s prayer. I was at a firehouse in Southeastern Connecticut in a meeting for the Association of Connecticut Fire Police. We came to the meeting at 0900; with little organization the meeting did not begin until 1015. The Pledge of Allegiance and the LORD’s prayer followed. However, I spent the first hour and fifteen minutes overhearing the filthy language and various other fleshly conversations, that; I suppose when these unsaved people stand at the Great White Throne Judgment (Revelation 20:11-15) may seek to give this account. “LORD, I recited Your prayer at public and religious gatherings my whole life and what do you mean when you say that I am not worthy to enter Your Kingdom and that my name is missing in the Book of Life? 

Devotional: Moving from this meeting: Sadly, everyone who recites the LORD’s prayer may NOT be saved by the grace of God. Some are atheist, most are simply religious and very few are saved. There are very few people who do not know these sixty-six words in the Gospel of Matthew. These were spoken by Jesus Himself to teach His disciples to pray. Matthew records this event in Chapter 6:9b-13. Luke in his gospel records this prayer also in chapter eleven of his gospel account. In either account, having memorized these words do not make you a disciple of Christ.

If you are familiar with the Living Word of God you may be reminded of another statement of Jesus which is recorded in the next chapter of Matthew, chapter seven, verses 13-14. Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. 

If you consider yourself a disciple of the LORD Jesus, then you are a learner, as this is what a disciple is. He or she is one who follows the teaching of Jesus. (He is the small and narrow Gate) Not because He was a good and humble man, but because He is far better than good and humble, He is the Messiah of God who was first sent to redeem all of mankind back to God, He came as the suffering Messiah, the Lamb, Isaiah 53:1-12; John 1:29-34 and Matthew 28:1-8.

You may know the LORD’s prayer, you may know of God, you may know of His death and you may know of His bodily resurrection, but with all of this knowing you may still lack one truth called FAITH. If you do not personally trust (by faith) that He died for “your sin and rose again for your personal sanctification” then you do not KNOW Him at all. Also, you do not know that He is coming again to earth, not as the suffering Lamb of God, but as the KING of kings and the LORD of lords. If this is your knowledge of God, then you are just another member of those people in the broad way that leads to destruction, as in the book of Revelation, the judgment at the Great White Throne.

Comment: Could it be that the godly man and woman have ceased to be? Have the “faithful” disappeared from the surface of the earth? Have you noticed that people speak idle words to one another, they flatter each other with proud tongues and a double minded heart. There is no Fear (respect) for God in their eyes or conversation. Their treachery toward each other is a national epidemic, it is overwhelming. Not only do we have an Opioid (drug) problem, but we also have on a much larger scale Moral (right and wrong) problems. Do we not believe that humans can fix human problems? Why then are the problems of living peacefully with each other getting more difficult? SIN! What? No, no, we have tossed that word into the trash can along with other words that offend the natural thinking person. We do not ignore the word SIN we simply believe that it is ‘religious or moral conduct’ and we reject both of these because along with this rejection we have rejected God.

Devotional: In the comments above you will find the first two verses of Psalm 14, now for the remaining six verses! “The LORD will cut off all ‘flattering lips’, He will also cut off the tongues of those who boast pompous words of those of an inconsistent mind. 

The human tongue, it is a mighty weapon, it has destroyed people, nations, kingdoms and kings. But the human tongue has not destroyed God. The idol tongue is not one that has nothing to say! The ‘idol’ tongue is found in the mouth of one who loves his or her tongue and they worship the power they have with it, believing that it will prevail. Who is lord over them they will quickly confirm.

The tongue of mankind is a double sword too, but it is driven by the double heart. While speaking of mending and healing from one side of the heart, the other side oppresses the poor and the needy. The sighing of this remnant of people is heard by the LORD God and at the appointed time, He will arise and establish safety for all who are oppressed.

God will speak to the human whose tongue is dead to Him! God’s Words do not come from a deceitful tongue, His Words are pure, like silver refined in the furnace of the earth, purified seven times. While you may not fully appreciate this statement of David in Psalm 12:6, you might appreciate what the Holy Spirit has to say about God’s Word in Hebrews 4:12-13. 

There is a generation who will keep and cling to the sword of the LORD, God will preserve this generation along with His Word. Will you be one who is preserved, or will you continue to prowl with both sides of your tongue and agree with the vileness of the wicked as it is exalted in the land of which we call “Homeland”?
