The Devotional - A Look at the Book #717

The Devotional - A Look at the Book #717

by Jesse Abel
High walls and gated communities are a common sight in large cities, yet I noticed our smaller township of five thousand that near our home there is another guarded community. We call it the local jail house, kind of ironic I thought how people often move from one to the other, both the innocent and the guilty. There is nothing new under the sun, Genesis 39:1-23 and 40:1-23

The last chapter and verse of the gospel of John reads; “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.” John 21:25.

Have you ever considered this thought? I have and if it is true and I believe that it is, I say “oh my”; who am I that God is mindful of me? How can One man accomplish so much in just a few short years that the world cannot contain the full knowledge and wisdom of unless of course He is the God/Man.
Jesus did many things in the presents of His disciples, most of what He did and said is not written, but enough is written that if you take time to read and study, you just may come to faith in Him. This is the message of John’s gospel as in an earlier chapter John explains this in John 20:30-31.

And whether you realize it or not, we read and study people all day long, we study our friends; we challenge them, laugh with them, cry with them and love them. We meet new people, whom we study, we like them or we dislike them, we make them prove their worth and all the while we may be nice or indifferent, yet we do not reveal our true self or get to close.

One of the disciples called Thomas who is commonly called the doubter (didymus) as this Greek word means “double” but not double minded as some have implied but that Thomas may have had a twin brother.

Thomas makes an interesting observation of the Risen Christ (Messiah). Thomas says in John 20:28, “my Kurios and my Theos” or as we understand, my Master and my God. If we were to take the time to see the fullness of these two Greek words joined together in this one statement of Thomas, we would run out of paper and ink trying to explain the joy in our soul at knowing this truth. Thomas is literally saying that He now sees standing in front of Him is the controller and sustainer of heaven and earth.

As man He died and rose again for us and as God He sustains us. Our human mind can go no further than to stand before Him soon and say, “my LORD and my GOD – How great Thou Are” and even in that statement, He is greater still. John 20:24-28

Have a great day… find a Bible and read the Gospel of John.
