The Devotional - A Look at the Book #889

by Jesse Abel

Thoughts from Papa “J”

For the most part physical walking and running become more difficult with age; yet some are able to push through that wall with good living habits. Ever notice an elderly saint who has sought to keep the Word of God? Are they not like those found in Proverbs 4:10-13 and 20:29?

Good Morning

2 Corinthians 6:11-18 – When the LORD God commissioned Joshua to take the Israelites into the Promise Land, He has some very interesting words for Joshua. Notice Joshua 1:8-9; ever wonder just what book the LORD was commanding Joshua speak from, to meditate in, to observe and to do?

Was it a book that was lost in the wilderness, or was it a battle plan for moving into the promise land? No not one of the above and none that we are unfamiliar with. Remember that Moses wrote the first five books of the Bible; you have in it your hands. The Torah (Hebrew) or the Pentateuch (Greek); this is the book that God commanded Joshua to live in.

Does this not give you a sense of joy to know this, that at any moment day or night you can open the entire Bible that we have today and read from those five books or read from all of the history, poetry, promises, challenges and commentaries that have flowed from those first five books.

All of the New Testament writers reference the Torah and here in 2 Corinthians 6:11-18 the apostle Paul makes reference to Leviticus 26:12 and Numbers 33:51-56. Even the LORD Jesus makes reference to the Torah in John 3:14; see Numbers 21:9. Well I could go on and on about this, but it is better studied on your own since God will speak to you personally through His Word.

The only way a saint of God can be Holy, which is the context of the portion of scripture focused on today is to be in the Word that directs us to the Majesty of God. The Majesty of God is His Character. Almighty, All Just, All Righteous, All Knowing, All Present, All Loving, All Truthful, All Sovereign, Eternal and Unchangeable.

The Holy Bible and the writers of the Holy Bible all speak openly to you and me. Why? Because God’s heart is open wide to us, the words of scripture do not restrict us from knowing God, like other religious writings do. The world too restricts us when we are unequally yoked with unbelievers; having fellowship with lawlessness and following religious distractions. These are dead end streets to holiness.
