The Devotional - 04

The Devotional

Comment:

Coming from a Catholic background, I could know a lot about the Pope and my answer to that is: “I do not”! I do know that it takes white smoke to make one and once he is installed he gets to wear a crown. Also I know (Wikipedia helps) that a new crown is presented to the new Pope and that there are 24 still in existence. Size differs of course, as does the shape, but all resemble the basic form of a dome. What I thought interesting is that this crown is a symbol of man’s religious effort to please God. The gold ornament is made by man and given to man to represent the presence of deity in man; but not forever mind you. Just for the season of time the man serves as Pope.

Challenge:

The Book of Revelation begins with “The Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show to His servants” Revelation 1:1a. Drop down now to verse 8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End”. Says the LORD, “who is and who was and who is to come the Almighty”. The only Authority over the church of Jesus Christ is, how do you say it? Jesus the Christ! He wears as we said yesterday the victory crown over sin and death and He is known and called by His saints as “Faithful and True” and in Righteousness He Judges and makes war – Rev 19:11.

The saints of God know the LORD in His Redemptive Power, power to save all who believe that He died and rose again and who is the only Conqueror over sin and death. 1 Corinthians 15:50-58. The world does not know Him this way, nor can the world call Him “Faithful and True” and yes He has a Name that is above all names in that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess, Phil 2:9-11. His name is Jesus but His name is above the comprehension of all names.

Now we cannot lose sight of what Moses is seeking from God in his conversation with God in Exodus 33:19, I believe Moses is asking God to revealed His Sovereignty/Character and to do this God must proclaim His Name. From Psalm 33:1-22 and we should notice verse 5. He (God) loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. His Sovereignty/Character is His Name expressed throughout His Word and in Creation, Psalm 19.

Moses in Exodus 33:19 says to God, “Please, show me Your goodness”. While the Hebrew words differ these both seem to project the same definition of God’s Character/Sovereignty. I hope we can see where I intend to go with this since Monday I will seek to pull it all together. The earth is full of the goodness of God, His Name is proclaimed to those He is gracious and compassionate to. In the meantime, look to God as His grace is sufficient for every moment of every day.
