Turning points can be critical moments in any given day, usually we have an
agenda and we pursue it. If something hinders or blocks our pursuit we will
change course like a ship on the seas when a storm is threatening the intended
course. It is interesting to me that the LORD Jesus Christ will not change His
pursuit to the cross, nor will the religious Sanhedrin be able to prevent their
deeds from carrying out the Will of God. Throughout the Ministry of Christ, the
public crowd followed Him, the Sanhedrin did too. Let’s not forget His
disciples or His friends like; Mary, Martha, Lazarus, His mother or brothers
from time to time.
Devotional: The scripture in the gospel
of John reveals that the followers of Jesus had something in common. MANY OF
THEM BELIEVED, and many had turning points; this morning we will take a brief look.
The Cana wedding, the miracle are one event, by verse 23 and after the wedding there were many signs revealing the Messiah to the people. John 2:23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the
Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs
which He did.
The
Samaritans after the meeting of Jesus with the woman at the well. There were
many citizens in Sychar who believed in Him because of the Word He spoke that
indeed He (Jesus) is the Savior of the world. John 4:39 And many of the
Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who
testified, "He told me all that I ever did." And John 4:41 And
many more believed because of His own word.
By chapter
seven, many of the public crowd who followed Jesus daily were convinced because
of the signs that Jesus did. Now we know that even some who believed did not
come to personal faith for He knew what was in their heart; (John 2:24). But by this time in His
ministry it would be foolish to consider the whole crowd in this and say that
the darkness of those days was stronger than the power of the signs of Jesus. John
7:31 And many of the people believed in Him, and said, "When the
Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?"
There is but one thing in life that relieves the
burden of doubt and when doubt is removed it is as if you have been set free.
Free of what, we may ask! The bondage of sin is the gripping power of Satan’s
hold or leverage on the world. We are set free because Jesus is TRUTH, and John
8:30 As He spoke these words, many
believed in Him. Thus it is the TRUTH (Jesus/Messiah) who sets us free from the
domain of darkness.
We
will stop here and pick up the remaining four on Friday. Friday’s devotional
will be late as this one is as we have a couple of appointments on these
mornings of these days and that does slow things down.
