The Devotional – 1513 – Settled in Heaven

Psalm 119:89-96 – Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all generations; You established the earth, and it abides. They continue this day according to Your ordinances, for all are Your servants. Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never forget Your precepts, for by them You have given me life. I am Yours, save me; for I have sought Your precepts. The wicked wait for me to destroy me, but I will consider Your testimonies. I have seen the consummation of all perfection, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad. 

Comments and Challenges: LAMED

1.       89 – YAHWEH, Your WORD is settled in heaven forever.

2.       90 – Your FAITHFULNESS is to all generations, You have established the earth, and it remains.

3.       91 – Your LAWS remain to this day, for all things serve You.

4.       92 – Unless Your LAW had been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.

5.       93 – I will never forget Your PRECEPTS, for with these You have revived me.

6.       94 – I am Yours, save me; for I have sought Your PRECEPTS.

7.       95 – The wicked have waited for me, to destroy me. I will consider Your STATUTES.

8.       96 – I have seen the limit of all perfection, but Your COMMANDS are boundless.

Romans 11:33 – “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His JUDGMENTS and His WAYS past finding out”. We can see that our writer of Psalm 119 is mediating on this very thought as he begins this stanza. What also is clear is that he understands the strength of the LORD Jesus’s WORDS in Matthew 6:8-15; so if I have a question for you and yes I do. Do we in our churches today understand that the WORD of God is settled in heaven forever and that it is His Will for that same WORD to be settled on earth too, for all generations, including ours?

I think we miss a very vital point in the LAWS of God in that these LAWS serve God, not man. In fact; I believe that we are as created beings under His LAWS of creation; don’t you? In Genesis 1:1-31 we find the list of COMMANDS that the LAWS of creation are established on. You and I are found in verses 26-28. If YAHWEH had not spoken this LAW into creation, we would never have had the opportunity to SERVE the LORD. I do not know what is racing through your soul this minute, but in my soul there is overwhelming delight.

If I could not mediate on the FAITHFULNESS of the LORD, I would perish in my affliction and so would everyone who is adopted into the family of God through His PRECEPTS which revive us, thus we can say with confidence. I am Yours LORD; deliver me, for I have sought your PRECEPTS. Should we think or believe anything less in the LORD’s FAITHFULNESS? Psalm 19, one of my favorites reminds me as well of Matthew 6, the whole of the chapter speaks personally to us that our service of worship is settled in heaven for the purposes of God and played out in the courtyard of earth. 

Therefore there are boundaries, boundaries that go beyond the perfection of man, boundaries that are settled in heaven Psalm 19:1-7. These boundaries are for you and me to learn about, are they not? The LAW which converts the soul, the TESTIMONY that makes wise the simple, the STATUTES which rejoice the heart, The COMMANDMENT which enlighten the eyes of the soul, the FEAR OF THE LORD which endures to all generations and the JUDGMENTS of the LORD which are true and righteous all together.

Friend, no one doubts your testimony of being a child of God, yet if you do not involve your day in the wisdom and knowledge of the LORD, then you have not “overcome” the “vise grip” of the world that is keeping you from the STATUTES that are RIGHT, rejoicing the heart, 1 John 5:1-5 and Romans 5:1-11.
