The Devotional – A traitor, a denier or a robber
Comment: When was the last time you took stock
of those around you? Are we not ALL honest people, then why should we lock our
doors? Why too do many of our neighbors have weapons hidden in every room of
the house… just in case? It is no different today than as it was in any day of
the life and ministry of Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. Sadly within
the twelve disciples who follow the ministry of Jesus; two out of the twelve
are identified in John chapter 18 as a traitor and denier (liar). Also, earlier
in the gospel of John, Judas is identified as a thief (John 12:6). Even though
God would have us to walk justly, practice mercy and be humble before Him
daily, Jesus who is God walked and shared His life with SINNERS just as we are
today. Why? Because John 3:16 is TRUE.
Devotional: Jesus revealed God to the twelve disciples
(men), God the Father gave these men to Jesus to be His disciples, He (Jesus) taught
them the WORDS of GOD. They knew Him and believed that God the Father sent Him.
(We as observers and students of the word of God) could develop various
thoughts about these men, whether true or false our human view of these last
days of the ministry and life of Jesus Christ matter little. We could say; “I
would never deny Christ” or “I would not betray Him” Well my take away from
this is… Pants on fire! And have you ever stolen anything? If so, then face it;
you have the potential to be a denier and a traitor.
John
18:28-40 – while much can be said in these verses of the Holy Word of God, I just
want to take a moment and look at a couple of verses. Pilate questions Jesus
about His authority over the Jews. Jesus takes His Authority a step further and
reveals a kingdom much larger than that of the Jewish national concerns. He
explains to Pilate that if that Kingdom was threatened, that the servants of
Jesus would defend Him. The discourse between these two kings reveals the
problem of mankind and the solution of God for mankind. Stop lying, stealing
and denying the TRUTH.
While being
questioned by Pilate and near the ending of this questioning, Jesus response
with “you say rightly that I am a King. For this cause
I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world. That I should bear
witness to the TRUTH. Everyone who is of the Truth hears My voice.” The
response of Pilate is the same response of the ‘world’ today, “What is Truth?”
People who do not know Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God are liars, thieves
and deniers. Some of these people (even saved by grace) deny Him because they
do not know the TRUTH. Why? Because many in the pulpits today filled with men
who fail to teach TRUTH. And we as individuals fail to live justly, love mercy
and walk humbly with our LORD. Micah 6:8.
