A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:169-176 – Personal Meditation
Comment: As we wrap up Psalm 119 this
morning, I am reminded of the psalmist desire to remain pure and humble before
God and man. I wonder! How are we doing with humility and purity in our day
before the LORD and mankind? Purity and humility, even justice; does not
function properly in ‘anyone’ who does not express ‘faith’ in The God of the
Holy Bible. The apostle James reveals that “faith without works is dead”, James
2:14-26. It is equally clear that the writer of Psalm 119 has saving faith in
God, and it is just as clear that the works that he seeks to do are not to
appease God, but rather; to please Him; see Hebrews 11:6. First, like the
writer of Hebrews we must believe that God exists and that He loves us. This
faith we are discussing is the same faith that began at the dawning of history,
when Adam and Eve accepted; by faith, the sacrificial offering of clothing from
God in the Garden of Eden.
Devotional: Psalm
119:169-176
The writer of Psalm 119 does not have an ending to his
prayer and meditation, verse 176 does not close the Psalm, this is true of some
of the other Psalms, too! This is food for thought, just as life goes on, so
ought our daily faithfulness to God continue. We are looking for that ‘city’
whose builder and maker is God, thus our hope and faith in God is growing
greater every day. See 1 Peter 1:1-25.
The psalmist has no intention to stop praying because
he has run out of alphabet, his meditation and prayer to God for understanding
is as fresh in this ‘tau’ section as it was in the ‘aleph’ section; see verses
4 and 5. As the LORD God delivers us according to His Word our lips will always
utter praise. Deliverance in accordance to the Word of God are building blocks
added to our foundation in Christ, see 1 Corinthians 3:11.
The ‘statutes’ of the LORD rejoice our soul and our
tongue speaks of the goodness of God’s Word. In this expression of purity and
humility we proclaim the justice of God to those around us. Yet we are not independent,
nor do we act alone since God’s Hand is always guiding and directing.
Righteousness and justice is of God, humanly we cannot express this and we need
His Spiritual guidance to help us daily. We are children of God through faith,
thus our faith is revealed through our soul that is ‘alive’ in Him.
We, like the psalmist go astray, to say that we do not
is to lie against the Truth, see 1 John 1:1-10. During these moments in ‘time’
we must rely on confession, just as the psalmist does. He seeks for God to
restore him as being too long in the darkness, the soul will stray from the
commandments of God. We are like a lost sheep from time to time and were it not
for the Great Shepherd of the Sheep, restoration would be impossible, Hebrews
13:20-21.
