Comment: The grace of God is a supernatural
Gift from God, personal faith in that gift, is one’s response to that Gift. If we
receive it, we become a child of God, if we reject it we remain a child of the
devil, see John 8:44, as the context of this section of scripture reveals who
the Jew thought they were following, but because they were not doing the works
that Abraham did, they were actually following the works of the devil; John
8:38-47. The Israelite was led by Satan to stray from the Truth, by idolatry
and immorality, this same tactic of Satan has led many these days to believe
that their religion (idolatry) and way of life (immorality) is okay. Let me say
bluntly… IT IS NOT OKAY, IT IS SIN.
Devotional: Jesus
is the LAMB of God, notice if you have not already, John 1:29 and the testimony
of John the Baptizer verses 29-34.
The next day
John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who
takes away the sin of the world! This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a
Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.' I did not know Him; but
that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with
water." And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending
from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He
who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit
descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy
Spirit.' And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."
John the
baptizer was alerted by God the Father to be on the lookout for Messiah/Christ,
he also understood that he; John, would be the messenger who would reveal Jesus
to Israel, who as a nation was in fact; looking for Messiah to come. While John
did not see God the Father, he did see the Spirit of God from descending from
heaven as a dove who came to rest on Jesus.
One might ask! “Is
this important to know”? Most assuredly; without the testimony and witness of
John the Baptizer we would not understand fully that Jesus is the Christ who is
the Son of God. The apostle John in his gospel uses this Title of the Christ
twice, both times in John chapter 1, verses 29 and 36, but I would like for us
to notice Genesis 22:8.
And Abraham said, "My son, God will provide for
Himself the lamb for a burnt offering." So the two of them went together.
“God will
provide” yes God has provided as He did for Abraham and His seed and for you
and me; Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes AWAY the sin of the world. What an
awesome sacrifice, what a Savior is He. Such a sacrifice cannot be measured or
created by mankind in time on this earth, it can only be provided by God the
Father who in eternity, before time began, provides. This gift will always be
provided to the world by faith.
Notice Hebrews
10:5-10 – God the Father prepared this Sacrifice of His own Son, that through
the offering of His body once for all that His death on the Cross fulfills The
Father’s will and opens the door for all of humanity to be delivered from the
penalty of sin and death. Just as Jesus is risen from the dead, if we receive
this message by faith in God; we will also be raised as Christ.
