The Devotional - 1049 - Foot Steps in First Corinthians, ongoing

The Devotional – 1049 – Foot steps in First Corinthians, ongoing
Do you remember when it was customary to assist someone in need? A woman with a baby seeking to get in out of the rain and the door was hard to open due to the wind. Or some elderly man needing an arm under his elbow to help make the stairs he was seeking to climb. I am not saying that this sort of thing is not done today, but you seldom see this in our busy day to day communities where the ball cap is flat and pointed in a different direction than the face of the individual wearing it. Well truly helping in a moment of need is not a law, but it WAS a long standing tradition to help those in need. These needs are still present and there are those who still seek to help, even if they look a bit out of place from time to time and you hear someone say… isn’t that the sweetest thing? “Cringe”!

CHALLENGES & COMMENTS – 1 Corinthians 11:2-16
I believe this section of scripture is important to us these days, in fact; all scripture is given by INSPIRATION of GOD, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction (training or discipline) in RIGHTEOUSNESS. ) (2 Timothy 3:16). Yet the sad news is that, while there are sections of the Holy Word of God that men today seem to skip over, that these sections do not go away but are like the beacon in the night that calls for one to be warned or to give direction.

With that thought in mind, let us take a look at some Jewish tradition. The apostle Paul being a Jew himself was very keen on the Commandments, Judgments, Precepts, Statutes and Ordinances of God. Judaism also had additional law, judgments and ordinances to obey. When we go into Paul’s training and background we clearly see that he was as he mentions in the book of Acts. That before he was saved by grace; he was a Pharisee. In Acts 23:6 Paul explains to Ananias the Jewish high priest and in Acts 26:5 he explains to King Agrippa that in his early adult life he lived according to the strictest sect of Jewish religion as a Pharisee.

It will take more than this one day to treat this passage of scripture well. There are three avenues of thought that the Apostle Paul discusses with the Corinthian church regarding the use of head coverings in the church and each one of these discussions are very interesting. So with the remainder of my time this morning I have this to say of picking and choosing scripture. The more I study the Holy Bible the more I am aware of what I do not know, if you do not study the Word of God, or if you are only willing to accept what someone else has to say about the Word of God than you are missing out on a lot of “joy” and much “reward” both in TIME and ETERNITY.

There are many applicable methods available to apply the Word of God to one’s life. Thus I believe that in churches throughout the nation and the world around us we HAVE and DO develop a form or fashion of all of these available methods and call this TRUTH. The more I study the Holy Bible the more I am convinced that this application to biblical truth is faulty.

To APPLY myself to some form of teaching of the Word of God is not of necessity. In other words; God may not be pleased with our application to His Word, but He is pleased only with our BELIEVING His Word. Faith, believe and trust are all the same Greek root word, it is that simple. Also I looked in the concordance and could not find the word apply or application.

Finally; applying something to anything is like placing a thin surface layer of veneer over it. In time the application wears off and what you have left is a fading resemblance of what once might have been. Of course if you keep applying one veneer surface over the other you end up with a paperweight. So I have already made the change in my personal walk with the LORD to stop applying and to start believing God. For me there is a BIG difference and I believe it would be for many young and old to do the same.
