The Devotional
Comment: King David understood that Creation
was because God Spoke, he also understood that the Word Spoken sustained life. Not
only in the Command of God to sustain life, but also to maintain it as well.
This wonderful truth does not stop with sustaining and maintaining, God does not
remove Himself for one second from that which He has created. Psalm 19:1-14 is
evidence that God is a moment by moment personal God of; Law, Testimony, Statutes
and Commandments. Also, it is the FEAR of the LORD that guides us understand that
God is zealous as well for His Judgments, as these provide wisdom for His
children. Proverbs 23:17-18 clearly provides a connection of our Father/child
relationship. “Do not let your heart envy
sinners, but be zealous for the ‘Fear of the LORD’ all the day; for surely
there is a hereafter, (future or latter end) and your hope will not be cut off”.
Devotional: Psalm 119:145-152 – We have in the
past looked at the heart and soul and I have basically said that the heart is
full of good and evil. The soul is the temple of God, for the unsaved person
the temple is empty yet it hungers for righteousness. Without this filling of
Righteousness in the soul, the human heart is left to producing
self-righteousness, which is a product or standard of good and evil.
(145) – I find
it interesting that the writer is saying to God, “With my whole heart, I cry; hear
me O LORD! While he knows that he does not have “a sinless heart” he does include
his soul to participate in this plea as he continues “I will keep your statutes!”
The statutes of God do not find a safe haven of rest in the heart of anyone,
but in the soul where Righteousness dwells the Statutes of God are right,
rejoicing the heart – Psalm 19:8.
(146) –
Persecution is a battlefield for the children of God daily, in the world around
us we observe “good and evil” sometimes our heart wishes to join in – in every
trial there is a temptation. Our meditation on God’s Character will deliver us
because His Testimonies do not fail, these are fresh every morning; Psalm 30:5 –
God’s grace (a statute) is for LIFE, while weeping may last the entire night,
the shout of JOY comes in the morning.
(147) – What
goes on in our heart during the night watch, while we sleep? The mind that is
focused on the persecutions of the moment will cry out for help, even before
the sun rises. The human heart knows its own worries and bitterness. If there
is no hope in the Word of God anchored in the soul, what would be the outcome
of this worry? Tomorrow, if the LORD tarries we will see how the writer of this
Psalm looks back to the night watches; from (9pm to 3am) for the answer.
