The Devotional
Why
would we have habits? A person is said to have a habit if they wear the same
costume everyday like a clown or a nun in that the costume becomes the habit. Another
form of habit is to do something repeatedly, it could become an irritation or
object of concern if one pulled on his or her ear repeatedly or pulled on their
nose. I once knew a person who pulled on their nose all of the time and it
became long and pointed, nearly a half inch longer than normal.
People
who take drugs or smoke cigarettes and use alcohol are said to have a habit
too. Now days we call their condition a disease. If we care to be truthful
about drug and alcohol abuse we would call this SIN. Smoking is a drug, alcohol is a
drug; also we have made legal prescription drugs. If you think
about this as I do, we have made legal the very things we condemn since the
same things are available illegally. For me this is the evidence of how we
justify “good and evil”.
Comments and Challenges
Psalm
119:137-144 – Today looking at the remaining two verses.
(143)
– Trouble and anguish have overtaken
(found) me, yet Your commandments are my delight. When we meditate with God
about His Character and the holiness of His commandments the anguish of “good
and evil” in our heart is put to rest. Anguish is stilled by the work of our soul which is God’s
temple in us; 1 Corinthians 3:5-17. The soul always honors the Creator, just as
the heart honors the flesh, when we listen to our soul we are delighted and have
overcome the fleshly anguish of good and evil and the Holy Spirit comforts us.
(144)
– The righteousness of Your testimonies
is everlasting; give me understanding, and I shall live. There is not a day
(maybe even an hour) that goes by where we are not confronted with a cry or
complaint of someone. A co-worker, a son or daughter, or maybe even a parent.
Emotional moments that for the one complaining needs immediate relief but
cannot obtain it. IT IS only through the LORD’s testimonies resident in our
soul that we are not consumed with them. Psalm 119:86-88, God has graciously
given us the testimony of His mouth. WOW!
