A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:9-16 – Personal Meditation (2)

A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:9-16 – Personal Meditation

Comment: Psalm 119 perhaps is one of my personal best to meditate on, daily! In thinking about this, I am reminded of other Psalms. Psalm 19 could be #1 with Psalm 119 holding #2. To search out others may be time consuming this morning so I will hold that thought until another day. I do want to say something about Psalm 19, this Psalm written by David is wonderful revelation on two platforms. One; is the Majesty and Glory of God in Creation, David recalls this; no doubt from the days of being a shepherd as he observes the Majesty of God’s handiwork all around him. Two; as David studies out the Living Word, God reveals definitive Truth that David meditates on. Seeing that we are to be kings and priests in eternity, it might well be good for us to meditate the definitive truth in this Psalm daily.

Devotional: Being physically dirty, our daily task of working or playing is normal, we get dirty. However, when work and play has ended, it is normal to clean up and feel fresh again. This is not the case of some, no doubt we know of some who will not cleanse for days, there is an odor. What about those who have the knowledge of the Holy One – Jesus/Messiah, when these folks fail to cleanse their spiritual condition, these too have a stench.

The psalmist meditates on this thought in verse 9 and contemplates a solution of cleansing that helps us in our daily walk and that would be to; take heed and “do” according to what the Word of God says. To many moments in the day go by, when we half-heartedly seek the LORD’s provision to be holy. Easily we fail to hear the words of; “Be holy, for I am Holy” see 1 Peter 1:16 and we even fail to agree with God when we have sinned, see Psalm 19:12-14.

Like the psalmist, we ought to hide the Word of the Living God in our heart/soul, if we read the Word only, without meditation we are faulty and we have a half-hearted expression of faith. This is visible to the people around us and it fails to glorify God when the pressures of life meet us face to face, the result is sin. We ought always focus on the LORD who is blessed forever and He will teach us His statutes and our lips will declare His judgments.

When the testimonies of the LORD are on our lips we are revealing to others what God has spoken. His judgments, being plainly revealed to others, not only rejoice our heart, but provide hope to the hopeless and we are surrounded by hopeless people daily. These moments that God provides for us are rich blessings. These spiritual rewards are far greater than any gold or silver coin.

Therefore, I would rather contemplate the Ways of my LORD and to meditate on His Precepts. Looking into the Statutes of our Living God gives great delight and in these I will meditate continually. I have said in my heart, “I will not forget His Word! It is my prayer that you would do the same.
