The Devotional – 1458 – Some concluding thoughts!
Proverbs 9:10-11 – The fear of the LORD is the beginning
of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding! For by Me your
days will be multiplied, and years of life will be added to you.
Comments and challenges
As with every Word
from the Holy Word of God, all of the context point to two major thoughts that
are missing in the life of humans from their very first breath. What do you
think these two thoughts are? For me the answer is; Fear of the LORD and
Knowledge of the Holy One. Now I know that what I am saying can be
argumentative, especially in the “no contest” of infants or others who cannot
understand. These humans have no opportunity to learn of the fear and knowledge
of God before their soul returns to Him. But really that is another subject
altogether.
We have been looking
at the early events of the creation and fall of man, also we looked at a few of
the questions that God asked Adam to answer. The questions gave mankind an
understanding that he did not know God enough to fear Him and even though man
was sinless at a historical point in time he did not have full knowledge of
being “himself” holy. Now again this can be construed as “conjecture” on my
part and truly all of us need to be careful about – guess work. Even if you or I
were privileged to be the first Adam, we would have “committed sin that leads
to death” just as Adam, that is my point.
We say as we read in
the first few chapters of Genesis that God is Holy (and He is) but we determine
that at these early stages of created life that man is not holy but innocent.
Innocent of what? He is innocent of knowing good and evil; therefore at this
point he is sin free. He is allowed to eat from the Tree of Life and live
forever, but not allowed to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil
for in the day he does he will not live forever.
Thus man has the
ability to choose wrong from right, but he does not have the power (or the
knowledge) of the Holy One to always make holy decisions. For me this power is
the knowledge of the Holy One or more readily identified as the Indwelling Holy
Spirit. This is not a flaw in creation as some might argue as God knows the end
of the matter before the beginning. Isaiah 41:4 and Isaiah 46:10.
Romans 5:12-13 –
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through
sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned – (for until the law
sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law). Now the
question to ask is what law? The law given to Moses or the law given to Adam or
a combination of both! “Both” laws are in view! Notice verse 14, Nevertheless “the
sting of death” reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those who had not sinned
according to the likeness of the transgression of Adam, who is a type of Him
who is to come.
Natural (the unsaved
person) is alive to death, sin and death is not an option it is a reality.
However the Spiritual (the saved person) is alive to God, reality for a saint is
their eternal destiny and ability to be “holy” they have knowledge of the Power
of God as better understood through the words of the apostle Paul as he writes
in…
Romans 6:1-4 – What shall
we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How
shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many
of us were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into “His Death”? Therefore
we were buried with Him through the baptism into death, that just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory (Power or Holiness) of the Father, even so we
also should walk in newness (the Fear of the LORD and knowledge of the Holy
One) of life.
Have a godly weekend
and you won’t be… in the end weak!
