The Devotional -148 - Cowards

The Devotional – 148 – Cowards

Jeremiah 3:1 – They say, “if a man divorces his wife, and she goes from him and becomes another man’s. May he return to her again? Would not that land be greatly polluted? But you have played the harlot with many lovers; yet return to Me, says the LORD.

Comments and Challenges

Does anyone remember “Fatso, Skinny and Cutie Pie”? These were three small birds that we had, but only Fatso and Skinny remain. Cutie Pie died some years ago, she was a parakeet, Fatso and Skinny are Finches. The two birds are doing very well if you are interested, but I thought I would make a comment about how they panic and flee from one side of the cage to the other when someone they are not familiar with comes into the room.

The birds cannot get away; I mean they are caged, sort of like running into a barrier before really getting started. Panic is one of those “man-killer” moments in time when what you should do you do not do; your mind simply shuts down and your actions to avoid death; bring death. I do not know, but there is this recent incident in the news that bothers me in a terrible way. Simply this “Does our government have the right to “shoot to kill” before it has all the facts? I do not know the answer to this completely, but I do know that “cowards” believe that they have that right.

“So what do these birds have to do with Satan's determined desire to control God’s Creation?” Romans 8:18-23. Creation is subjected to this same bondage of corruption and like us; those birds are eagerly awaiting deliverance too. Of course you have the right to say, “Bah Humbug, Jesse!” But if this were not true, then creation would be exempt from “suffering and death” and Cutie Pie would still be alive. Also if Satan did not exist, it would not be necessary for the graveyard in your neighborhood. For me, this most recent incident is just one more vivid example of socialistic government failure.

Mark 6:45-52

After the largest picnic ever, the LORD Jesus leaves the hillside and the words of Mark indicate that Jesus sternly ordered His disciple to get into the boat go before Him to Bethsaida, He also sent the multitude away as well (Matthew 14:22 agrees that Jesus is stern). However the apostle John gives us a bit more information. Jesus spent a good deal of time after the meal to express Truth concerning the need for Spiritual refreshment and most of the people rejected His message.

His disciples seeing the mass exodus of those who just ate to full must have been inclined to do the same. Jesus says to them in John 6:67-68 – Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” The Simon Peter answered Him, “LORD, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Everyone leaves Jesus, but as you know it was the desire of our LORD to go up to the mountain and spend time in prayer to His Father (The Living God) and if you have ever given a message to a group of people, then you know that it is after people hear the message that Jesus is the Son of the Living God (which is Spiritual nourishment for the soul) that Satan seeks to do the most damage to the soul that hears. Revelation 3:13 the message of Jesus walking on the water continues to ring loud and clear to people of faith.

Jesus left the mountain after spending time with His Father to bring a follow-up message to His disciples. Only Peter; while His eyes remained on Jesus was able to walk with Jesus on the water, the others were skeptical and one remained in unbelief (Judas). Notice if you will… Mark 6:52 – For they had not understood about the loaves, because their heart was hardened. If this can happen to His disciples, I wonder… just what is going on with the churches today?
