The Devotional
Comment:
There is nothing like the truth! When someone speaks to you
and the truth is left out of the talk, it is like listening to the pestering
drone of a fly seeking to spread its ejected and diseased spittle on you once
it has landed. In Ecclesiastes, Solomon has something similar to say about dead
flies in the perfumer’s ointment. I have used this verse before, Ecclesiastes
10:1 but today I wish to use the second half of the verse which reads: “so does
a little folly to one respected for wisdom and honor”. Which importantly means
that the weight of a lie is crushing to one who is forced to hear it.
Challenge:
I am excited about the Book of Job, I have read it a couple
of times, but yesterday as I was reading through chapter 28 I thought, how
wonderful was the wisdom of this man Job.
Now I do not have a lot of time this morning to dive into
the Book, but I do have time to ask all of us to begin reading Job. Please don’t
read on your job unless you are on a break, but do read Job as an opportunity
to be filled with joy, joy in the LORD. In doing so you will take the job out
of the assignment to read Job. Got it?
God is Love – Beloved, let us love one another, for love is
of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not
love does not know God, for God is love. 1 John 4:7-8. This love
the apostle speaks of is not the love
word professed by the lying world. God’s love is perfect, pure and
trustworthy. One day we will stand before Jesus and if we love as God has
taught us we will have boldness in that Day of Judgment. Why is that? Because
as He is, so are we in the world, when we love one another. Therefore – learn to
love as God loves.
