A Daily Devotional – James, the Epistle – Personal Meditation (5)

A Daily Devotional – James, the Epistle – Personal Meditation

Comment: Position and performance, both Character traits are high priorities for most of us in our daily life. Openly we may argue that this is not true, for example; you would not dare to let it be known that you pick your nose, but do you pick your nose? Now I know that is a bit bizarre, but my intention is to focus on Godliness and not what we do humanly. “Now godliness, with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into this world and it is certain, we can carry nothing out” – 1 Timothy 6:6-7.

Devotional: None would deny, we have been given a great gift of grace from God. Everlasting Life with God, through Jesus the Christ/Messiah supersedes everything we would consider precious in this human life.

Everlasting Life includes the following spiritual blessings; we are chosen, holy, blameless, adopted, accepted and forgiven; by Grace through faith in the ‘redemption work’ of Jesus/Messiah. Also through Jesus/Messiah we have been given wisdom and understanding, we have a ‘holy inheritance’.

Our position is no longer earthly, or tied to the ways of the natural mindedness of the unsaved. Therefore, our performance should read. (Position) “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. (Performance) Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God – Colossians 3:1-3.

James 1:17-18 – Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is NO variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be the kind of first fruits of His creatures.

These firstfruit gifts from God ought to be what the unbeliever sees in us. But what about it, does our human performance override our spiritual position? Often, or to many times it does and the unbelieving receives the wrong message.
