A Daily Devotional – Psalm 119:145-152 – Personal Meditation
Comment: Our Adult Sunday School teacher is
providing a series of studies on “Absolute Spirituality” With his permission, I
will address some of his teaching of last Sunday. We must always keep in mind
that when a Psalm writer is specifically addressing redemption and salvation,
that his request to God is not for the salvation of his soul, but for ‘ongoing’ spiritual
revival, or as we would say today “absolute Spirituality”. He most surely is
already saved by the grace of God; what he is seeking from God is deliverance
from the wickedness of the people and worldliness around him. He is seeking
revival of the Spirit; daily or moment by moment revival with the Spirit of God; deliverance from the persecutions
of ungodly people and deliverance from the inner temptations to take the matter
in his own hands. Personal actions negate the mercy of God and fail God’s
love. This is spiritually destructive and we deal with this daily, seeking to walk
by faith and in the absolute power of God by the Holy Spirit is a daily
conflict; is it not? Sadly many children of God give up and are defeated by the
prowler. See 1 Peter 5:6-11.
Devotional: Psalm
119:149-152
“Hear
my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O LORD, revive me according to Your justice.”
The justice of God surrounds you and me in every encounter with people and the
world. It is not ‘if’ we meet with opposing views of evil or good; it is “we
will”. Thus, it is when we do, what shall we do? Shall we buckle under the
pressure and respond as people of the world, or shall we call upon the “justice”
of God. the justice of God is Super-natural and in all cases, it opposes and
defeats the Satan influenced natural mind of good and evil – Genesis 3:1-5.
“They
draw near who follow after wickedness; they are far from Your law.” We
are surrounded daily by people who knowingly and unknowingly follow wickedness.
The law of God began in Genesis 1:1, it is just as effective today as it was
circa six thousand years ago, also the law of God will be just as effective
throughout eternity. The child of God believes (knows) this by faith and the
child of the devil HAS no faith in God.
“You
are near, O LORD, and all of Your commandments are truth.”
Shifting his thoughts, the psalmist calls his attention to God’s Commands. “One
command that we seldom think of in times of being surrounded by the trials of wickedness
is; “be holy for I AM, HOLY”, see 1 Peter 1:13-21 and Leviticus 11:44-45. Now
grant you we are not Israelites, but if you read first Peter 1:1-25 you will
immediately notice that we are a ‘chosen generation’ and we are “sanctified and
set apart for God’s purposes".
“Concerning
Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever.”
We know the testimonies of God, to say that we do not, immediately imposes a
lack of willingness on our part, to walk in the power and justice of God; that
is, the Holy Spirit who indwells. A most recent study at our church reveals spiritual
victory and failure. The study also reveals the internal struggles in the
child of God. Saints who seek to understand absolute spirituality (which by the
way is most of us) find out that we can look and act like the problematic nature of the good and evil unbelievers around us.
