Ever go to new employment or to a new school; the employer or teacher comes along side; they show you the rules and assign training. The first few weeks you are under a guardian and your production is limited. But as time goes by you are allowed more freedom and soon you have the liberty of full service and now in return you are a light to someone else. Philippians 2:12-18. Be glad and rejoice God is at work in you.
Ecclesiastes 1:2 – Vanities of vanities says the preacher; all is vanity. You may not think that this is not important but the word is, is in italics meaning that in the original text the word is not found. Now the subject I am after is the word “vanity”. But of course if you are reading some of the lower English versions you may not find the word vanity at all but another word like “meaningless” yet staying with those versions that are translated from the Textus Receptus you should find like I do the added words, “all is vanity”.
Well now, that was not an easy paragraph to put down on paper! So is being implied by the translators changes the impact of what Solomon is saying so I will take out the is! “Vanity of vanity,” say the Preacher; “Vanity of vanities; all vanity.” The verse then becomes more hopeless or depressing and really gives hard evidence of living life under the sun (on this planet) without observation of God in your life.
Our hearts; not the blood pumper that keeps us vertical, but the inner heart that runs the operation of our daily life before God longs for the opportunity to know God. Solomon says in chapter three that God has placed eternity in our hearts and placed Creation all around us to point us to His Love, Ecclesiastes 3:11. Have you ever thought about the awesome detail of what your soul longs for and the revelation of God that is always in our face? O what a joy we fail to see, if we do not search for God in His Creation.
Psalm 19:1-14 is a favorite of mind. David in his wisdom of God and under the power of God writes that the heavens reveal the glory of God. Not just once in a while but every moment of every day. God has repeatedly revealed His Power and Glory every day since the world began. True the perfect beauty is flawed by sin; but even in this, His Mercy will reveal much, when we search the scriptures. Ecclesiastes 3:11b.
Psalm 19 can be divided into two basic parts, but if you are a student of God’s Word there is a lot more that one can do with this Psalm, but for now we will look at the two parts. Our eyes can see the Creation of God and when we see Creation, even for the first time; the sight of it should drive us to His Word, which is the second part beginning in verse 7. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul. The Word of God which cannot fail has the powerful ability to restore the soul from that which was lost at the fall.
I cannot tell you how much joy the LORD can give you over this truth; you have to taste and see that the LORD is good for your soul. Seek the LORD while He can be found; there may be a day when your heart is all vanity.
