The Devotional –
1029 – Foot steps in First Corinthians, ongoing
A military person is protective of
their unit or company they belong to. For example; within military units, (ships
or battalions) there will be competition for battle ribbons and bragging rights.
The competition can be fierce and last for several days. For the squid (the enlisted
sailor) or the grunt (the enlisted soldier) these moments of battle readiness
are opportunities to brag on how good the ship or unit is, while the officers
or those in charge are more interested in the winning of a ribbon (the trophy)
for the unit. It takes training and wisdom to be the best, this means that
there are things, dangerous things to avoid otherwise there will not be a
bragging right or ribbon even though they remain a member of the losing unit or
ship. Now, did you get that? EVEN THOUGH THEY REMAIN MEMBERS OF THE LOSING UNIT
OR SHIP!

Corinthians 3: 18-23
As we will see later in First
Corinthians and as the apostle builds his case against the sins of the
believers in the Corinth church he provides some advance warning concerning our
ability to mix worldly wisdom into our Christian walk. When we do it is more of
a disability since we are commanded in Scripture to AVOID the wisdom of worldliness.
“Do not be wise in your own eyes (worldliness); Fear (respect) the LORD and
DEPART from evil. Proverbs 3:7.
Now someone might say… Well
Jesse, this verse is talking about “evil” while the passage in Corinthians is
taking a stand against the wisdom of the world. Yes I agree, but the wisdom of
the world can be good for the human EYE but in God’s sight it is EVIL.
Also the wisdom of the world
is foolishness to God, God catches the wise in their own crafty schemes. Job
5:13 says that God catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the counsel of
the cunning comes upon them. We need to see that the devil (the cunning one) walks
about like a roaring lion who is constantly looking for a meal.
Thus, when we bring into our church
fellowship the influence of worldly wisdom we are opening the door to
confusions of every kind and certain defeat. Why? Because we are fleshly
minded? Partly yes; because we have the responsibility to avoid worldly wisdom!
But the real focus on our defeat in church related issues is our church belongs
to the LORD. His church is under the scrutiny (the watchful eye) of His daily
inspection. He knows the thoughts of the fleshly minded and He knows these
thoughts are futile.
Revelation 1:8; 2:2; 2:9;
2:13; 2:19; 3:13:8 and 3:15 – if you are a good squid or grunt in the house of
the LORD, there will not be any “bragging rights” but there will be peace and
joy as our Commander and Chief Cornerstone says, “Well Done, good and faithful
servant…. Enter into the joy of the Your LORD. Matthew 25:23. (Just giving some
thought toward you JEROME, thanks for serving both in the LORD and in the
military).
