The
Devotional – 1034 – Foot steps in First Corinthians, ongoing
Now
wait just a moment! Once in Spain our taxi was stopped by the Spanish state
police and we were asked to produce our identification. We were sitting in the
back of the vehicle, I produced my military ID, and my companion could not find
his right away even though he had just showed it to the military guard a few
minutes earlier at the base gate (it had fallen to the floor of the cab). The policeman
was holding a semi-automatic weapon and he stuck it in my friend’s ear and
said, show me you’re ID or I will pull the trigger. I said, “Woe wait a minute
please since I am in the line of fire from your weapon, let me get out of the
cab”. I was told to shut up! I suppose this is what… “Guilty by association is!”
CHALLENGES & COMMENTS – 1 CORINTHIANS
5:9-13
Some
say that the apostle wrote a third epistle to the Corinthians which would be
more like the first, but I have no proof of that. Also in the previous section of
this epistle, he has written and warned the church to disassociate with
sexually immoral people. What I see here is that he is simply clarifying his
previous comments between those of the world and those within the church
fellowship.
In
1 Corinthians 6:9 the apostle describes those of us rescued from the world.
Unrighteousness will not inherit the kingdom of God. The thought if we should
have one is this. We were saved by the LORD Jesus from those ten categories of
sin listed, we can find our self in that list somewhere and it does become
personal; that is if we care to take a good soul searching look. So why than am
I told not to associate with believers who fall back to their original bent in
unrighteousness?
I
know we have all heard this before and is sounds cruel but all members;
everyone needs to be on the alert. We ALL have been delivered from an
unrighteous lifestyle by the grace of God the moment we obeyed the truth. If we
allow unrighteous acts of sin to flourish in the church it will take only a
moment to destroy the spiritual progress of the church and it’s family. Paul
will develop this later in the epistle.
In
Galatians 5:1-15 the apostle warns us to stand fast in the liberty that makes
us free from the unrighteous lifestyle of the unsaved. When a church fails to
protect that liberty we begin to use our freedom in Christ as a cloak of false
righteousness or as the apostle Paul says in Galatians to give opportunity to
the flesh, instead we ought to love one another even to the point of
separation.
