The Devotional - 1052 - Foot Steps in First Corinthians, ongoing

The Devotional – 1052 – Foot steps in First Corinthians, ongoing
The LORD’s Supper, Communion Service or the Breaking of Bread are common language among believers in Jesus Christ. Immediately our minds race to thoughts that are very personal. The thoughts (speaking of myself) are focused on my own personal relationship with Jesus. Always I am reminded that I am in need of His cleansing power. After these thoughts I like to read Psalm 22 since it is the prophetic account of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, recorded by King David. The events of crucifixion and resurrection are divided at verses 21 and 22. His sacrifice is completed at the end of verse 21 and in verse 22 through the words of David, the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ opens the door to the Jew and the Gentile to come in. Note that the writer of Hebrews quotes verse 22 in Hebrews 2:12.

CHALLENGES & COMMENTS – 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Any church service can be considered special to the saint who is growing in grace, however there are some and I would need to include myself at times that there are other things on my mind and this will cause a loss of spiritual blessing. One of the major things that distract me is that my eyes (oh if I could just keep them closed), I might do better.

But my eyes see the people who are in front of me, like the young married adults. It never fails, those smart phones are in their hands, swapping pictures and shopping on line. For myself this is a major distraction, I would like to reach out and “bop” the spiritual leader on the top of his head and say… “Now cut that out!”! Of course this is my most recent distraction, but there are others.

So what have we here; one (myself) with a mental attitude that is much like halitosis and young couples who are paying more attention to selfish pleasures then to the Word of God. How does that work with a Communion Service? Yes, you are right, it does not work at all.

Earlier in the beginning of First Corinthians the apostle address factions within the church and here in chapter eleven, as we looked yesterday, we see another faction of a different sort. The division between the rich and the poor (verse 21). One is hungry and one is drunk, same scenario just a different method of distraction.

So my challenge: The Communion Service is exactly a moment in time when all of the saints of God ought to be close to God and close to one another for one timely purpose. Being; to remember the Death of Jesus our LORD, a penalty He willingly agreed to do because He loves you and me. Romans 5:8, God proved His love for us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Psalm 22:22ff – declares the results of His Death, First: He is Risen, Second: He has claimed victory over sin, Satan and death and for those of us who have believed, He says that we are all one in Him. Hebrews 2:11-13 – For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: I will declare Your Name to My brethren; in the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to you. And again: I will put my trust in Him.
