Comment: Who can
remember the days of the “Dooms Day Prophets”? As a young boy growing up in
Louisville, Kentucky I remember seeing men walking the sidewalks in the
downtown area with billboards or large placards draped over their shoulders.
Now I do not remember verbatim, the slogans; but I do remember words like “repent,
coming soon and sinner. While most people seek redemption, the most one could
get out of these messages was an awareness that there is a God and maybe He is
angry. I do not recall seeing the word, LOVE. Well it is neither the anger of
God nor the love of God, in the context of alarming anyone of the soon return
of the Messiah. He is coming again and we, His children ought to be PREPARED
and shame on you, if you think or believe otherwise.
Devotional: Hoping that these are familiar passages of
scripture to you, lets read it together:
John 14: 1 "Let not your heart be
troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father's house
are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a
place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come
again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
This promise from Jesus/Messiah to His disciples is very
much in tune with the devotional expression of King David in Psalm 23: 5 You prepare a table before me in the
presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. 6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will
dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.
The message of the return of Messiah/Christ is one that we
as God’s children have heard from the beginning of our physical birth,
but believed on in our Spiritual Birth. The message that Jesus spoke to
His disciples is one to offer them peace through faith in Him. We would do well
to notice the struggle of faith expressed by Thomas and the others. Thomas did
not say “I do not know where you are going” Verse 5, he says – LORD we do not
know where You are going and how can we know the way?
In John’s gospel, the LORD promises not only eternal life to
those who believe, He also promises an eternal home in heaven with Him. Also,
He seeks to reveal the Father and provide Peace for them since He will be
returning to the Father, He promises to give the Spirit of God as a Helper in
this life after He departs. He also promises another gift, the gift of PEACE.
In Psalm 23; David express in meditation that the
LORD/Messiah is his Shepherd, David is at peace with God, Messiah leads David to
tender places of green grass and fresh waters. The LORD willingly restores
David’s soul by leading David in right paths. The LORD/Messiah does this
because the LORD is righteous and for Messiah’s Name sake. David’s valleys are
deep and the threat of death is always near, yet the Shepherd never fails David
as the Shepherd corrects the path of David as His rod guides him.
It is one thing to KNOW, but doubt these truths about God
our Father, it is quite another to BELIEVE that God the Father’s promises are “Yea
and Amen” and in this we meditate day and night. God is coming again, SOON
perhaps! And when He does and after all of the fullness of time elapses, we will
abide with Him forever because His promises never fail. There is no fear in this, but there is peace and comfort.
