The Devotional
Comment:
If you travel the highways regularly
you might become aware of certain things you can get away with pertaining to
the law that regulates safe travel. In fact; travel safety is a good example or
background comparison to the righteous requirements of the Law of God and on a
personal level we know how to bend the law to work, as we think, in our favor. There
is only one problem with this sort of thinking. One transgression on the
highway or the byway of life can lead to death, never mind the penalty of a
fine or confession. Also, enough guilt is never enough cover or protect the
innocence, there are none righteous; no not one, but guilt will sear or scar the
conscience. Proverbs 6:28 the question is asked – can a man walk on hot coals
and his feet not be seared? Physical travel requires conscious thought and
responsible action, a “hot foot” is very unpleasant. Likewise – the purpose of
the commandment of God is; “love from a pure heart a good conscience, and from
a sincere faith”. 1 Timothy 1:5; any failure of breaking the commandment of God
is unrighteous, unloving and falls short of God’s intended will of God for our
life as His child.
Challenge: Romans 8:-4 - 11
The
LORD God has a purpose and a plan for our lives, it is a plan of restoring our
soul to God’s original design in creating mankind. Genesis
1:26-28 – Then God
said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the
cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the
earth, "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He
created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God
said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it;
have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over
every living thing that moves on the earth."
As we slowly work our way through
Romans 8 we will see that the Law of the Spirit of God is strong to save and
deliver us from sin and death. The righteous requirement of the law of God will
never be forgotten or forsaken by God, thus as God’s children He has provided
that through His Spirit the opportunity for us to fulfill the law. This ought
to be the goal of every child of God and that is to walk according to the
Spirit of God as He leads us. Remember in Romans 7:25 the apostle says clearly –
“I thank God – through Jesus Christ our LORD! So then, with the MIND I myself
serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin”.
So if you are in Christ (justified)
then the body of self-righteousness (sin) is dead and God through the death and
resurrection of His Son (the gospel) has given us the Spirit and the Spirit of
God is (His Life) Righteousness. How much joy, how much power, and how much
value shall we who are in Christ Jesus know and understand if we abide in the
Spirit? The thought of growing in Christ and in the power of the Spirit of God
is overwhelmingly joyful.
Romans 8:11 – “But if the Spirit of
Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the
dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in
you”. Jesus when He prayed for the disciples asked His Father to “Sanctify them
(His disciples) by Your truth, Your word is Truth” the word sanctify literally
means, “set them apart”. God through our confession of faith in Christ has “set
us apart” from the power of the flesh as a result we too can be disciple and
set apart in truth and to be holy.
Yes I know we sometimes sin, but
this is not an excuse to overlook sin as just a margin of error in the byway of
life, or as we often overlook a speed limit or a caution light and say, “Well I
am only human!” No, no you are not; by confession you are Children of God also
and living before the Eyes of God our Father to accomplish His Will, so gird up
the loins, be sober and rest in your salvation. Know that were are redeemed by
the precious blood of Christ, because it is written, “Be holy, for I AM holy”. Excerpts
of 1 Peter 1”13-21
