Looking into the perfect law of
liberty is not new to the apostle Paul and too; if you are a seasoned saint of
the Living God, this Law should not be new to you either. Still I am reminded
of the some of us who have no problem judging the weaker believer. If the
perfect law of liberty were just confined to what we eat or drink, there would
be no problem at all, since in these times of the church we mainly see those
who dine on the bread of obesity. Who willingly deny the power of the resurrection
from faith to faith! Remember we read in Romans 1:16 and 17 how that the
apostle Paul was never ashamed of the gospel toward any nation and the world
around him. Why because he says that the righteousness of God is revealed from
faith to faith. So today while we liberally feed off another’s cultural differences
we do so knowing the potential of harming their confidence and willfully weakening
their faith in Christ. In this; are we are feeding our own selfish flesh at the
expense of a fellow brother or sister as they seek maturity in Christ?
Challenge: Romans 14:3-4
Righteousness
and holiness are the main characteristics of a mature believer. Both of these
attributes are revealed in us by and through the Love of God in us; esteeming
another’s interest above our own is not an easy task of the flesh, truth is; it
is impossible since the flesh is not interested in a holy conduct of righteous
living. The flesh in us is aware of us, no one else. Therefore we are not aware
of the expense in destroying the faith of another brother or sister in Christ,
sadly we do this all to often.
We
must be careful, I am sure you have seen people come and go out of the local
fellowship. Some are long standing brothers and sisters who, for what reason
(who knows) will be offended, lose faith and go away. If you were to ask them
why; it is most always because they were offended by something said, maybe a
cultural difference or something someone failed to properly addressed with God
through prayer.
So
we say! What is this perfect law of liberty anyway? We will look and you may be
surprised at my take on this. The best definition of the law of liberty I consider
is found in Romans 6:14 – for sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are
not under the Law but under Grace. Grace fulfills the Law of God through Jesus
Christ; 2 Corinthians 5:21. Christ’s Righteousness in us is the outworking of
the law of liberty in us, through our application and understanding of the
following.
For
all the law of God is fulfilled in one word, even in this; “you shall LOVE
your neighbor as yourself” Galatians 5:14 – this is the absence of legalism and
judging another as in “love covers a multitude of sin, 1 Peter 4:8 – above all
things have fervent love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sin. This
law is God’s will and character, therefore it is perfect – James 1:21-2:8 we
are to set aside the overflow of wickedness and receive the word of God “implanted”
with meekness, or humbleness of heart. It is the Word of the Living God that
will deliver our souls in all occasions, to be doers (obedient) of the Word of
God.
The
Perfect Law of Liberty is abiding in the Power of God the Holy Spirit to Love
our neighbor as our self, if you really wish to fulfill the royal law according
to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well.
