The Devotional –ALONE!
Comment: As the LORD Jesus approaches the day
of His sacrificial death, we see His ministry among His disciples change. From
chapter seventeen through chapter 21, the LORD is alone, among humanity He has
no one that He might cling to or confide in. In chapter 14 we see these
recorded Words of Jesus in verse 30: “I will no longer
talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing
in ME.” It is as if the entire world has rejected Him, yet He is not
alone. While His disciples and countrymen are scattered by the ruler of this
world, Jesus says in John 16:32 – “Indeed the hour is
coming, yes, and now has come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and
will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.”
The physical suffering of our LORD on the cross was and is inexpressible with
human words. To die for the SIN of the world is unimaginable, but to be left
alone and to do this alone, only God Himself could accomplish. God was left
alone in that hour of time and only FAITH in one’s soul can believe this.
Devotional: In that period of time, Matthew in
his gospel records these words “Eli, Eli, lama
sabachthani?” This is not a STATEMENT, it is a question and the
interpretation of that question is. “My God, My God,
why have You forsaken Me?” The answer is and I quote from Hebrews 5:5-11.
“So also Christ did not glorify
Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him: "You are My
Son, Today I have begotten You." As He also says in another place:
"You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek"; who,
in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications,
with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and
was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned
obedience by the things which He suffered. And having been perfected, He became
the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, called by God as High
Priest "according to the order of Melchizedek," of whom we have much
to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.”
Jesus Christ did not glorify
Himself, He glorified His Father and as such, His Father glorified Him and He
(Jesus) became the HIGH PRIEST (Melchizedek). In this ONE event in history, He
was perfected through obedience to the Father and is the ONLY AUTHOR of Eternal
salvation to ALL WHO OBEY HIM.
If you know Jesus in this WAY then you
KNOW and have ETERNAL SALVATION, if you do not know Jesus in this way, then you
have NO ETERNAL SALVATION. The choice will always be yours alone through faith
alone.
