The Devotional – Is Jesus your Advocate?

The Devotional – Is Jesus your Advocate?

Comment: Does the LORD, the Creator of the heavens and the earth have a legal and convincing verdict against you? Is there a pending judgment from the courtroom in heaven regarding the way you have lived here on earth? The truth to these two questions is already a resident of your soul. Some of us ignore this truth the same way we ignore our appointment with death. Here is a reminder; Hebrews 9:27 says this; “And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. The Mighty God who would rather deal with you through His Advocate, instead of having you die a second time (Revelation 20:4-6 and 11-15) as you stand before Him on your own merit has already appointed a Counselor for you. You have the choice all the while you are alive to allow this Counselor to stand in on your behalf. His Name is Jesus Christ/Messiah. In Isaiah 9:6 the Messiah is called; Counselor, in 1 John 2:1-2 the Christ is called; Advocate.

Devotional: So now that you know this, but ignored it like most of us do; what will you do about it? You only have two choices; Come to the Advocate for the help you need, or take your chances that when you die and stand before the Mighty God that the merit of your life is worthy for entrance into God’s eternal home we call heaven. In order to bring this to an understanding we are going to look at an Old Testament verse this morning, Micah chapter 6:8.

God has revealed to every one of us what is GOOD and ACCEPTABLE to Him and because He has, He has required each of us to do something about it. (1) To do justice, (2) to love mercy, and (3) to walk in humility with God. If you do not practice these three God given tasks daily, you will not see the Kingdom of Heaven. Now I know as you do too that these three requirements that God expects from all of us is not practiced daily by most of us.

The fact is that we do not think about justice, mercy or walking with God unless someone does us an injustice or when we are confronted with anger instead of love. Walking with God! Are you kidding me? We curse God at every opportunity and it is shame of face for the blasphemies that fall off our lips while practicing injustice and hating mercy; is this not TRUE?

Jesus, when He was only a few days from dying on the cross for the sins of the world prayed for you and me. He prayed that we might believe the Truth and in turn practice justice, mercy and humbly walking with God. In Closing we can read this prayer which is preserved for us in the Gospel of John, John 17:20-26.

"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them." If you do not know Jesus the Advocate this way the you do not know Jesus at all.
