The Devotional – 1076 – Foot Steps in Second Corinthians, On
Going
Devotionals are different than in-depth or doctrinal studies
of the Holy Bible. While there may be a time or two when a devotional writer
peeks into the realm of interpretation, his or her main concern is not
practical application, but practical faith. In our everyday experiences and
personal relationship with our Savior and LORD we are required of God the
Father to make no mistake about it Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday, today
and forever. This is a FAITH statement and not one of application. Hebrews 13:8
has application of Truth surrounding it, but it takes faith to believe that the
same God who created the heavens and the earth, also is the personal God who is
concerned about our daily lives before Him in godly character.
CHALLENGES & COMMENTS – 2 Corinthians 1:1-3
Devotionals
are then personal challenges and comments that allow the reader to see that
faith, trust or believing God is practical. Now for a bit of application taken
from Dr. Thomas Constable’s Commentary on 2 Corinthians.
["Second Corinthians is very different from the letters
between which it was written, 1 Corinthians and Romans. Whereas each of those
letters is, in its own way, systematic and orderly, 2 Corinthians is, on the
face of it, uneven and digressive. It is no surprise, therefore, that many
scholars have suggested that 2 Corinthians is really a collection of letters
put together later as a single letter.”
"Second Corinthians presents many inspiring texts
and passages to the reader and teacher of God's Word. A quick survey reveals
approximately eighty individual verses lending themselves to extended
meditation and exposition, apart from the sixty or so constituent paragraphs of
the letter. This letter is a rich lode for the edification of God's
people."
"Of all the Pauline epistles, 2 Corinthians is
probably the one which presents most problems to the interpreter."
C. K. Barrett called 2 Corinthians
". . . surely the most difficult book in the New
Testament." He meant the most difficult to interpret.]
For me these statements mean that
the Book of 2 Corinthians holds opportunity for increasing our personal faith
in our Personal God. The apostle Paul as is his common practice in his epistle
expresses to his readers that his desire for each of us is to be experiencing “grace”
and “peace” from God the Father and the LORD Jesus Christ.
One quick note: God the Father, God
the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit are ONE God, these Three Persons
of the Trinity assist you and me in seeing the invisible attributes and
character of God, Romans 1:19, John 4:23-24 and Colossians 2:9-10. Jesus Christ
is God in bodily form and He is coming again riding a White Horse in a White
Robe dipped in Blood.
His Title in this setting in time
will not be the “Lamb of God” John 1:29 who takes away the SIN of the world.
His Title at this time will be the “KING of kings and the LORD of lords and
even in this moment of time Jesus will be the same yesterday, today and forever
– Hebrews 13:8.
So you see that application and faith
work as a wonderful pair of gloves of “grace and peace” to those who are
willing to say… even so come LORD Jesus – Revelation 22:20-21.
