The Devotional
Comment:
If you have a computer, you also have a mouse and a
keyboard. These are everyday items in most homes, not only in the United
States, but throughout the world. However, advancements in this technology will
all but wipe out the desktop computer. Our phones now are capable of doing what
these larger units do and I suspect that even the phone could be replaced today
by a microchip located somewhere on the physical body. Is such a thought
important? Yes I think so. Communication and control are the mainstays of all
of this technological advancement, while usefulness and knowledge; is important,
but secondary.
Challenge:
If you have a Holy
Bible in your home today, you could be among those that are branded as a
minority; today is not like yesterday, there is not a Holy Bible in every home.
We are approaching troubling times and most of us are basically unaware of the
swords of terror appearing on the horizon like blades of grass popping up in
the field on a cool spring morning. And yes, someone is saying; what? Why is
that?
Yesterday we
looked at Exodus 33:18-19, we will look at it again today and maybe even
tomorrow. In these verses I would like to pick out something that the LORD said
to Moses… just a few words, but very, very important. “and I will proclaim the name of
the LORD before you” I want us to know that the LORD could have omitted
those words to Moses and to us who read the Holy Bible but the message would
not have been complete.
Here is the verse
without these words of verse 19 – Then He (God) said, “I will make all My
goodness pass before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious and I will
have compassion on whom I will have compassion. While the verse this way reads
well, we need to praise the LORD that He added “and I will proclaim the name of
the LORD before you”.
Just what is in a
name? For a few examples; Enoch walked with God and after walking with Him was
not found. Another is Joseph, a man of good character and courage, the LORD was
able to use Joseph to deliver the family of Israel about 70 persons to Goshen
in Egypt. Also, Abraham the father of the nation Israel and Moses the friend of
God. All of these men have one thing in common, their names stand tall in the
Holy Word of God.
Without exception
all of these men were of good name and character, but flawed because all had
the fallen nature of Adam, however all were justified before God by faith. By
their confession of faith in the Name and Character of God they moved history
in accordance with the Will of God. Today, history is not moving in a godly
direction, a good name and character is less important. With no Bible in the
home, men have forgotten Proverbs 22:1.
Today we are “google”
eyed and “apple” pie-eyed, even blurry eyed with interestingly built
models of the modern day communication
highway. Why? Because we have forgotten that God has a name above all names.
His Name is “Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of
Peace – Isaiah 9:6. In the coming days we will focus on God’s Character.
