The Devotional
Comment:
Having served a bit over half of my navy career on the
surface of the oceans and seas of the world and the remainder below the surface
I believe that I am qualified to say that both environments have the glory and
tales of splendor, intrigue and danger. One could write a book about sailing
the oceans and seas above and below the surface and it would be very
interesting in every category one could focus on. Yet the oceans and seas of
the world have another story, one that was originally told by God through the
wisdom that God gave to Moses who wrote the first five books of the Holy Bible.
Israel calls these first five books the Torah.
Challenge:
Over three hundred
times God directs Moses to say something about the waters of the world in these
books. Water is identified in the second verse of Genesis 1, water is essential
for life; without it every living thing would die. Like all of creation, God
controls water, note Genesis 1:6-10. Without God’s daily Power, Wisdom and Presence
over that one element (water, in case you forgot) life would not be very
pleasant.
God is Sovereign
over all water, note Psalm 33:6-7 – By the Word of the LORD the heavens were
made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the
waters of the sea together in a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses.
Without Gods Sovereign goodness you and I could not live as we do; we do not
have what it takes to control the environment, thus we need God’s Immutable
watch care.
God also loves
what He has created (have you ever made something and did not love it) even a
baker or a chef love what they make, it is why their finished produce tastes so
good. Notice Psalm 33:13 – The ever present God, the only God looks from
heaven; He sees all the sons of men (all women and children) notice verse 14…
He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth and understands their works. He
has fashioned our hearts individually, He knows us intimately.
God’s abundant
love, His perfect Righteousness and Justice, His eternal plan and His Truth is
liken to the eye of the LORD, it is on those who fear Him (humble awe and
respect for God). His watch care is on those who have hope in His Character,
which is revealed to you and me by His Mercy and Grace. He alone delivers our
soul from death, even in various famines our soul waits for the LORD.
There is a
nationwide “famine in the land” not one of food, but of the “fear of the LORD” and
there is another side to the goodness of God. While His compassion does not
fail on those who love Him, His Justice also does not fail on those who reject
Him, remember God is unchanging (immutable). God judges nations in perfect
Righteousness, the LORD as in the days of old, roars from heaven with Justice
on the transgression of a nation who forgets the Character of God (His
goodness).
