The Devotional
Comment:
A void is a space and one can be found anywhere. I remember
once reading about an aircraft carrier that was in overhaul. Naval ships in
overhaul are ones that have been operational for long periods of time, but are
returned to the shipyard to be serviced. New equipment and various other
advancements will be added, etc. On this ship someone was going over the “As
built” drawings of the original make up and found that a complete “machine room”
was missing. Only bulkheads “walls” were where access doors should have been.
So the cutting torch was lit and the shipyard worker began to make a hole. When
the hole was complete, lighting was provided and wow! While this was considered
a “void” it was full of lathes, drill presses and other machining tools that
had sat idle for several years. Something void might contain something
valuable, but when those involved are “devoid” of understanding, this then
becomes the rest of the story!
Challenge:
Proverbs 12:11
NKJV – He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread. But he who follows
frivolity is devoid of understanding.
Proverbs 12:11 NIV
– He who works his land will have abundant food, but he who chases fantasies
lacks judgment.
Although cursed because of Adam’s sin the value of our world
is full of hidden treasure, Genesis 3:17-19 reveals that LORD God did not take
Adam’s ability as overseer away from him. The LORD God only added to Adam’s
responsibility the condition of labor.
When your heart is involved with the work of the moment,
there is little that can stand in your way. For example; a person devoted to
their work, will do everything needed to accomplish the task, even the little
or boring things.
Diligence is very much like devotion in that the results of
both will reward those who are touched by these attributes. Of course the lack
of these attributes in people also have affects and those who are touched by
this lack are often needy, both spiritually and physically.
There is another section in Proverbs that we will look at on
Tuesday, Proverbs 24:35 but for now this statement will do.
The LORD God has given to us “all things that pertain to
life and godliness” notice this, in 2 Peter 1:3 the apostle Peter under the
power of the Holy Spirit says that God, by His divine power has given to us all
things that pertain to life and godliness, through the KNOWLEDGE of Him who called
us by glory and virtue. WOW!
The thought is this; if we know Christ, if we have believed
the report of our elders that Jesus Christ died and rose again. If we are saved
and know it, then why are we so devoid of His exceedingly great and precious
promises? The Holy Bible is simply a “void” if it is not opened and we are simply
“devoid” or completely ignorant of God’s grace. Be therefore diligent - 2 Peter
1:5-11 and the “entrance” into God’s everlasting Kingdom will be abundantly
revealed to you.
