The Devotional
Comment:
Ever heard or thought, “If I could just escape to a deserted
island”! No doubt that everyone beyond the age of thirty-five has and a few
younger people too. Even so, if you were to go to such a haven of rest, what
might you find? The very first thing that crosses my mind is: “Do I really have
the understanding to be here”? Could be that if I do not know how to live alone
and in a place that is hostile in meeting all of my “needs” all I really have
accomplished is fulfilling the “wants” in my heart. No doubt about it, it is
more important to have our needs met than having our wants fulfilled!
Challenge:
I find that our
world without God is a deserted island when it comes to the Wisdom and
knowledge of God.
Our second
challenge from the Book of Proverbs regarding the natural mind of human kind is
that we are more than willing to place our self in harm’s way than one might expect. This is
because we lack understanding, if we survive the harm that is caused by our ill
powers of thinking we might be considered wise or brave, but in our personal
mind we might just hear the voice of our conscience say, “now that was stupid,
wasn’t it”! So it will be with our last breath if we lack the wisdom and
knowledge of God.
Now of course, here is the rub! Doing
something without the wisdom to do it is foolish! Many people are injured or
worse daily because they do things that they have heard of, but have no wisdom
of and therefore have no practical knowledge to properly do what they intended.
What an example? What about the youngster who hears about a drug that will make
him or her feel as though life is actually okay when they are taking it… and
the policing authority has to go to the home of that child with the sad news of
death and overdose the cause.
Proverbs 10:13 NKJV – Wisdom is
found on the lips of him who has understanding, but a rod is for the back of
him who is devoid of understanding.
Proverbs 10:13 NIV – Wisdom is
found on the lips of the discerning, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks
judgment.
Psalm 139 a Psalm of David, in this
Psalm David speaks of God’s goodness (His Character) and His faithfulness (an
Attribute) of the goodness of God. God is faithful to know us intimately, He is
faithful to know our every move, He is faithful to understand our thoughts and
He is faithful to understand the path we are on, He even understands our
restful moments. God knows our ways, the words on our tongue and altogether
with this wisdom, often in spite of our rebellious ways, in His faithfulness He
protects us. (Watch this!) Such “KNOWLEDGE” is too wonderful for me, it is
high, I cannot attain it – Verses 1-6.
How is it; that God has a Perfect
knowledge of Man and we have such a shallow knowledge of God? If we knew God as
we ought, we would be a discerning people and we would not lack judgment. “For
it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing the
understanding of the prudent.” Isaiah 29:14, God speaking through the Prophet
Isaiah regarding the world’s intelligence… it will vanish… see 1 Corinthians
1:18-21. It is never too late to get on board with God’s Wisdom!
