The Devotional – Excerpts from the Gospel of John
Comment: What stirs up the mind of someone more
than the thought of hearing good news. A good report card from a child and even
a good report from the doctor. The nature of a good news event, whether a child
or an elderly person will always bring that gleam in the eye, a smile on one’s
face and a sense of excitement in the heart. Of course, the “good news” I am seeking to share is
not heard in our nation these days. The true Evangelist it seems are a men of
the past, the spiritual gift of evangelism does not seem to be a ministry that
men pursue and if they do they often are referred to as “television evangelists”.
In this venue the listener or watcher must be careful since there are many
gospels afloat in this sea of confusion, thus on television we need careful
guidance; there is only one message of TRUTH.
Devotional: Allegorizing scripture is a
spiritually dangerous way to interpret the Living Word of God so we must be
careful, yet there are events in scripture where symbols (Galatians 4:23-24)
are used, so if I may take a moment and explain where I am going with this
thought this morning you might understand a direction that I see in John’s
gospel. Therefore, John as directed by God the Holy Spirit has chosen seven
miracles to spark one’s mind that Jesus Christ is God in human flesh. Jesus
Christ is the Apostle and High Priest of our confession of faith, so as a
consideration check out Hebrews 3:1.
In John 1:32 we
obtain our first view of Jesus as the apostle sees Jesus coming to him for the
first time. “And John (The Baptist) bore witness, saying “I saw the Spirit descending from
heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.” The Spirit of God is described
in Isaiah 11:2 as having seven Spiritual attributes of God’s Deity; the Spirit
of God is God Himself; In wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and
the fear of the LORD. Jesus Christ/Messiah is the only Human Person in history
who utilized the sevenfold ministry of God.
In the seven miracles
recorded in John’s gospel we will see the Spirit of God working through God in
human flesh. I am excited to look into this and I hope you are excited as well.
The eternal Word of the Living God is recorded and kept safe. Throughout time
God has protected His Word and God will continue His watch care over His Word
even though the darkness of the world cannot, or will not comprehend it. John
1:1-18 reveals to those who seek to know the Truth that the WORD is Jesus
Christ in human flesh.
I think that it is
worthy of thought that the Word of God began with LIGHT, thus the Word of God will
never experience darkness, Genesis 1:3. Therefore John’s gospel is the WITNESS
of the True Light of the world who is JESUS, all who reject this truth live in
DARKNESS and all who receive this TRUTH walk in Jesus the LIGHT. The Truth of
God is not complicated as some would like us to think.
