The Devotional – A look at Psalm 40:1-17 (Part 2)
Comment: John 8:42-43 – Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded
forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you not understand My speech?
Because you do not listen to My Word.” If we take the moment in time
to listen, we are taking personal opportunity to believe what is said, to trust
in the speaker. Thus faith becomes the object and the evidence of what is
heard. The problem and it is a problem; we are all too willing to shut down
when the speech is outside the normal processes of what we think and understand
from past experience. Religion and tradition are two main tools used by Satan
than cause people to stumble over personal
faith. Take the time to read the remainder of the LORD Jesus’s conversation
to the religious people here in John 8:44-47.
Devotional: Psalm 40:3-17 – Continuing from verse
three I am so encouraged with the words of David and he shares with his readers
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. “Blessed is the man who makes the LORD
his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” For
me these inspired words fit in the context of John 8:42-47. Making the LORD
Jesus Christ the object of your faith will provide multitudes of blessing. Why?
Because the eyes of your soul is now open to all the blessings that God gives
to HIS children; Ephesians 1:3-14.
Faith in Christ Jesus
our LORD will result in blessings that go far beyond religion and tradition. By
faith in Christ we understand the LORD’s wonderful works of Creation, which He
alone has done, we see this connection from Hebrews 1:1-2. Also as we move
slowly in verse 5 of Psalm 40 we ought to rejoice in this; that the thoughts
that God the Father has for us who have by faith in Christ cannot be recounted to
God in the order given. In other words, “where would we start?” God has perfect
knowledge of you and me. Psalm 139:1-18.
God does not take
pleasure in religious ritual or the practice of the traditions of our fathers.
He has opened our ears to hear TRUTH, faith prevents us to respond to truth as
Pilate did and say “what is truth?” (John 18:38) Instead our response to God
will be of “faith” in that the Book, the Holy Bible is written of Christ. Every
word directs the reader to Jesus the Messiah. Jesus delights to do the Will of
His Father and when we come to believe this, we will delight in doing the will
of Christ.
His will is to
proclaim the good news of righteousness, to reveal truth to those around us,
therefore let you light so shine on the world around us, see John 8:12. For me,
this is being a “doer of the word and not just a hearer”. This brings us to the
end of verse 10 here in Psalm 40 so for the sake of time and moving on for the
day let’s stop here. Rejoice in the LORD God, there is nothing in this world
worthy of rejoicing over and if you have faith in Jesus Christ… YOU KNOW THIS.
