The Devotional – A look at Psalm 42:1-11 (Part 1)
Comment: I do not think I am alone in this, but
there are times when I feel as if I am adrift in a sea of confusion. While just
a day or two before I was having good fellowship with the LORD, but now it
seems as if He is not present, my anchor chain seems broken and I am drifting
into the darkness of the world around me. Have you been there? I would say that
if you are serious about your relationship with our Father God and His watch
care over you then these occasions do come. When this happens the “joy” of our
soul is immediately gone. Now did the Father go on vacation and fail to take
His child with Him? No of course not, but we who are adrift (by some sinful
choice) are now feasting on the flesh instead of feasting on LORD of Glory.
Psalm 19:12-14 gives us ample understanding in this. We cannot always know or
understand our errors, but if we go to Our Father, He understands and restores
us to Him, IMMEDIATELY. Our problem is that we often wallow in the self-pity of
sin for to long a season.
Devotional: Psalm 42:1-11 – Our flesh has no
problem walking about in the world, it leisurely feasts on the on the polluted
waters of confusion, doubt, anger and frustration. Yet our soul that belongs to
God continues to long for the fresh water that comes from the TRUTH of God in
His Word. Our soul pants (longs) for the fresh LIVING water of Life. Water that
is pure, untouched by human persuasions. Our soul longs for the moment when it
will once again be, “face to face” with the Father through His Word.
Let me say that when
we are in the Word of God our soul treasures the moment. Why? Because our soul
is at Home with the LORD. The wonderful thing is that our soul understands it’s
condition, it is; “dry and thirsty” our flesh does not, while the tears flow at
the seemingly absence of our Father the flesh is mocking, “where is your God?”
and it is at this time we ought to begin focusing on where we are spiritually, notice!
Psalm 42:4 – When I remember
these things, I pour out my soul within me, for I used to go with the
multitude; I went with them to the house of my God. With the VOICE of JOY and
PRAISE, with the multitude that kept a pilgrim feast. Life in Christ is a
journey, He said in John 4:1-26 to the woman at the well that He is the Living
Water. Drinking of this Living Water, we will not thirst as the world thirst, as
this Water is the Pilgrim’s feast springing up into everlasting life. (Soul
food if you will)!
