A Daily Devotional – Psalm 61 – Personal Meditation (1)

A Daily Devotional – Psalm 61 – Personal Meditation

Comment: There is ‘just so much’ that one can do with a thought or subject before it becomes stale to the reader or writer and such as it is with our current subject of Personal Faith. So today we will move on and hopefully allow God to direct our path to another subject. God is Awesome. Someone has recently said and I agree; that this word “Awesome” should only be used when referencing God, since God alone is Awesome and nothing or no one else is. In Psalm 61:5 we see a calmness of David’s soul, this same calmness ought to be in our heart too! “My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation (hope) is from Him.” When our request to God is answered, or response to Him is Praise, because He is AWESOME!

Devotional: Psalm 61 is King David’s calm resolve to wait for the deliverance that only God can provide. This deliverance is not referring to eternal salvation, but deliverance in the battle with Satan, his devils and from those who follow Satan’s plan to destroy the people of God. In the first section of this Psalm, the king makes it clear that his soul silently waits for God. God is David’s the solid rock, God is a strong tower of defense for any who trust in Him.

What does the king mean in these first two verses of Psalm 61? Personally, have you ever, as a child played the game of hide and seek? Sometimes when I played this game it was necessary to climb up on something; a tree or a rock would afford me more vision to pick out those who were hiding nearby. David reveals that only God is the proper defense when it comes to knowing where and who your enemy is.

Not only is God a strong tower of defense, but He is also the calm resolve for the king when the going gets rough. Defending one’s position on the ‘platform of life “In Christ”’ is not from a fretful worried countenance, but from an unshaken resolve that God is and always will be, “GOD”, He will not be moved and neither will you or me if our expectation (hope) is in Him alone.
