The Devotional - 1515 - Part Two

The Devotional – 1515 – The Victory of the WORD
Psalm 119:105-112 – Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn and confirmed that I will keep Your righteous judgments. I am afflicted very much; revive me, O Lord, according to Your word. Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me Your judgments. My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget Your law. The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not strayed from Your precepts. Your testimonies I have taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart. I have inclined my heart to perform Your statutes forever, to the very end.

Comments and Challenges: NUN
1.       105 – Your WORD is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
2.       106 – I have sworn, and confirmed it, that I will obey Your righteous ORDINANCES.
3.       107 – I am afflicted, very much; revive me YAHWEH, according to Your WORD.
4.       108 – Accept I beg You, the willing offerings of my mouth. YAHWEH. Teach me Your ORDINANCES.
5.       109 – My soul is continually in my hand, yet I will not forget Your LAW.
6.       110 – The wicked have laid a snare for me, yet I have not gone astray from Your PRECEPTS.
7.       111 – I have taken your TESTIMONIES as a heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
8.       112 – I have set my heart to perform Your STATUTES forever, even to the end.

My plan is to rework the section of Psalm 119:105-112, there is a wonderful amount of Truth and Blessing in this section. I for one do not want to miss what the LORD God has in store for us in His Word. Someone told me recently that our Pastor has Psalm 119 memorized; I think that this is wonderful and thought that I might like to do that as well. We should be learners and doers of the Word, it is simple really, we cannot be a “doer” of the WORK unless we are a LEARNER of the WORD. Someone who is ignorant of the WORD cannot do the WORK that God has assigned them to do, thus doing the WORK must go far beyond “hearing it only” James 1:21-27.

I get all excited when I read the “experiences” of the writers of the Holy Bible; like our writer in this Psalm. He says “Thy WORD is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path!” KJV – what strikes me is the thoughts of this verse in the hearts of all the people who have read those words in the past. Some of course have counted those fourteen words as rubbish. Then on the other side of the pendulum some have counted as the psalmist does that the WORD of God is worthy and have confirmed in their SOUL to keep and obey these righteous JUDGMENTS of God forever.

We are afflicted by many avenues; the avenue of SIN being the main BROADWAY of affliction and I think that the other avenues are family, career, people and illness. In all, these tend to redirect our capacity to live life under the protection of God’s Holy WORD and we NEED to be REVIVED. For my own personal revival I turn to the Living Word, who is my friend; the Living Word has a name and His name is JESUS. The psalmist has this same Personal Friend and he calls Him YAHWEH, He is the Old Testament reference to JESUS. Notice that the psalmist talks (prays) freely to YAHWEH seeking for the LORD to accept his prayer and meet his need.

You and I would do well to understand that the writer is not asking for a free ticket back home, no not at all he is asking the LORD to teach him HIS JUDGMENTS as the JUDGMENTS of God are our foundation to ENDURE life under the protection of God. The question then comes to mind, “How do we perceive the JUDGMENTS, PRECEPTS, COMMANDS, LAWS and STATUTES of our LORD”?

Can you imagine this? All of what God will reveal to you and me is MORE than anything that the world around us could ever have. Deuteronomy 29:29, but first; read some of the context of Deuteronomy 29, maybe starting at verse 22. Why? Verse 25 says; “for the nations have forsaken God”. Our nation has forsaken GOD, our people need the LORD, yes they do; but also our people need HIS WORD in their soul, even to the END. We who name JESUS as a FRIEND must show ourselves FRIENDLY, Proverbs 18:24 and John 15:8-17.
