The Devotional - The ROCK that follows you

The Devotional
Comment: If you have ever trained a new person at work, you can almost tell from the beginning just what sort of worker is staring back at you as you explain the tasks at hand. Most people are willing to listen and willing to learn, but there are those who “know everything” and you can tell right from the get go by the “blank stare” and the comment “I know that”! The Living Word of God says, “Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall”. This is not out of the context of the things we will be discussing this morning. Many of us who claim “Salvation by Faith” will say that once they are saved, that they know it and even remember the day and date in their history of life when this event took place. As I have thought about this in my heart “I know this” therefore life for me in Christ is settled. All true? Yes it is ALL TRUE, but for the child of God who knows this without the study of the Word, they fail to live the sanctified life that God calls them to, thus when the “go and do likewise” (Luke 10:37) training comes from the LORD their soul has but a BLANK STARE. 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Devotional: The Holy Word of God, through the ministry of the apostle Paul is loaded with the call for all of God’s children to be HOLY, for me this is basic knowledge that we often set aside. Maybe this is because that being called by God to be Holy sounds foreign to the human mind. You may notice that your willingness to call yourself a “saint, or even a child of God is not something you do openly do.

Let’s read Psalm 107:1-2 together – Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good! For His mercy (goodness) endures forever. “LET THE REDEEMED OF THE LORD, ‘SAY SO’ whom He has REDEEMED from the hand of the enemy”. Question: Does not this verse of scripture place “JOY” in your soul? For me personally it is a most precious and calming thought. Yes, I am redeemed by the Blood of the LAMB, who was slain FROM the foundation of the world – Revelation 13:8.

Before the world was established (see the entirety of Proverbs 8) God in His infinite wisdom was to be the LAMB and with His Blood, He purchase me; Abraham said to his son Isaac – “God will provide HIMSELF a lamb for a burnt offering”. So the two of them went together – Genesis 22:8. All peoples, tribes and nations have the opportunity to be redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb who was slain. Know this for those of us who are saved, REDEMPTION is the anchor of our SOUL that calls us to be a “bondservant” of our savior JESUS.

In the redeemed you will not hear the words “I KNOW THAT” and you will not see the blank stare of those who think they know everything, but know nothing at all. What you will see is the JOY of living in holiness to the LORD. The apostle Paul says to the Corinthians “Moreover brethren, I do not want you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, all passed through the sea. All were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea. All ate the same spiritual food and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual ROCK that followed them and that ROCK was CHRIST. But with most of them God was not PLEASED, for their bodies were scattered in the wilderness.

1 Corinthians 10:1-6 – Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they lusted. (The opposite of SPIRITUAL HOLINESS TO THE LORD, is physical lusting after the things of the world). “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but GOD IS FAITHFUL, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. Knowing that you are REDEEMED by the blood of Christ/Messiah is the way of escape – 1 Peter 1:13-21.
