The Daily Devotional - 1485 - Our inheritance

Daily Devotional – 1485 –Our Inheritance
Psalm 119:57-64 – Thou art my portion, O LORD: I have said that I would keep thy words. I entreated thy favor with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word. I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. The bands of the wicked have robbed me: but I have not forgotten thy law. At midnight I will rise to give thanks unto thee because of thy righteous judgments. I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts. The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.

Comments and Challenges
Thinking of what to jot down in this devotional I considered all of the resources available right here at my fingertips. There is a small library of books, and atlas, the computer, concordances and a box of nose tissue (can’t say Kleenex, that would be false advertising). Then behind the scene in front of me are all the comforts of home. These things move me just little; what moves me most is what the Psalmist says about our portion in life.

Material things and physical attributes will rot in time and the resources that have endurance according to are not forever, even the king’s throne does not endure for all generations, Proverbs 27:24. Only God is forever and the things that proceed from the Throne Room of God are eternally His. One brief reading of Revelation 21 and 22 and other Old Testament passages give glimpses of God’s eternal abode.

Where God Reigns; His Kingdom is forever (Heb 1:8) His Scepter is Righteousness and the lawless deeds of this temporal rotting world will not be there. So we should understand in the midst of any tribulation that our portion in eternity is like that of the psalmist; our potion is God and His Righteousness. Why? Because we at one point in time said that we would keep His Word. That would be the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us; John 1:1-18.

The world around us will often point our feet in the wrong direction and like a wave of wickedness will seek to rob us of God’s intended blessing.  If it were it not for the “law” or may I say the “Spiritual code of conduct” that keeps us, we would be robbed at midnight, so to speak. Instead we awake and rise and give thanks because we trust in the righteous judgments of our LORD.

I like being a companion of those who fear the LORD; as with my own self, their desire is to keep the precepts and judgments of God. One more thought; we who trust in the LORD God through the death and resurrection of the Jesus Christ have an inheritance. The Holy Spirit in us confirms this Truth, Romans 8:12-17, He; the Holy Spirit is an existing evidence of our future inheritance making us connected heirs with Christ. If we suffer with Him, we indeed will be glorified together with Him. So be steadfast, unmovable and always abounding in the word and work of the LORD, knowing that our labor is not in vain, but in power, the power of the Holy Spirit.
