The Devotional
– 1488 – The Perfect Attributes of God
Psalm 119:89-96 – Forever,
O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness endures to all
generations; You established the earth, and it abides. They continue this day
according to Your ordinances, for all are Your servants. Unless Your law had
been my delight, I would then have perished in my affliction. I will never
forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life. I am Yours, save me;
For I have sought Your precepts. The wicked wait for me to destroy me, but I
will consider Your testimonies. I have seen the consummation of all perfection,
but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Comments and Challenges
After discussing the
Creative Power of God in the latter part of chapter one of Hebrews, the writer
goes on to say in chapter two; Hebrews 2:1-4 that to neglect creation is to
neglect salvation. How should we escape judgment if we neglect a so great
salvation. One of the very first rejections of believing in God is to reject
the Law, the Testimony, the Statutes, the Commandment, the Precepts, the fear
of the LORD and the Judgments of God in Creation.
The one thing, yet of many
that run through my mind about the writer of Psalm 119 is how he clings to the
pillars of creation, or the attributes that reveal the Character of God. How
awesomely these keep him focused. Are you focused today? Can you say in your
soul? “Forever, O LORD, Your Word is settled in heaven”. How soul gripping is
that statement to you? Only God can make a change in the Statutes that control
the heavens and the earth, are you not rejoicing that mankind can do nothing to
effect or affect Creation? To global warming we can confidently say – Bah Humbug!
Yet we see through time that
His faithfulness endures to all generations; He established the earth and it “stands”
the earth will not be moved by any; only by God if He so chooses. An ordinance is
a statute; David says in Psalm 19:8 that statutes have the ability to rejoice
the heart. When I consider the statutes that hold the stars in space and now I am
reminded of a hymn and my heart rejoices.
He’s
Everything to Me –
In the stars His handiwork I see, on the wind He speaks with majesty, though He
rules over land and sea, what is that to me? I will cling to the Good News, for
this has a personal place for me in my past; Surely He came to set all peoples
free – Even me! Till by FAITH I met Him face to face, and I felt the wonder of
His GRACE (it was then) that I knew the He was more than just (a god); He is
God, the ONLY God and He does care, now I know He walks with me day by day.
So the writer of Psalm 119
says with confidence: Unless Your law had been my delight, I would then have
perished in my affliction, oh yes like the writer; I will never forget His
precepts, for these give me hope in all aspects of life.
I hope you have life in
Christ today; if your life is without Christ then you have NO hope of tomorrow;
life for you is temporal. But if you do have life in Christ today, then you
KNOW the hope of tomorrow, for your life is eternal. Jesus says in John 14:6 – “I
am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
ME.
