The Devotional
– 1019 – Prayer and the Wisdom of God
While on a steep hill or on the
roof of your house you can feel the pitch to plunge backward or forward
depending on which way you face the sloop. It is an occupational hazard for
firefighters, and construction workers, mountain climbers and so on. These folks
are prepared and confident of their personal ability to stay safe; but
additionally they do not ignore the pitch. Being aware is then good, it is in
part, the safety net of doing things we have been trained to do.

Psalm
119:33-40
As a believer in God, that
is one who has Faith in Jesus Christ we are to be trained in Righteousness, or
as the apostle Paul instructs in 2 Timothy 3:16 that scripture is provided to
you and me for instruction in Righteousness. So just what is Righteousness?
Righteousness is God! His law is perfect, converting the soul. His testimonies
are sure, making wise the simple. His statutes are right, rejoicing the heart.
His commandments are pure, giving light to the eyes. His judgments are true and
the Fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever.
Combined in this thought of
who God is and what Righteousness is as King David wrote in Psalm 19 is that “ALTOGETHER”
these characteristics of God are required wisdom for the SAINT of the LORD. When
would be the last time you prayerfully considered these attributes of God
abiding in your own soul? Have you said to the LORD, “teach me Your statutes,
give me understanding, make me to walk, INCLINE my ear, turn my eyes away from
worthlessness, establish Your Word in me. Your judgments are good, I long for
Your precepts and revive me in Your righteousness; Psalm 119:33-40.
Yes we pray and yes we seek
the will of God in our life, but I believe that the apostle James nails the
answer to the above paragraph in James 4:1-4 in that most of our prayer
communication with the LORD God is missing the mark. We ask God to do what we
understand as needing, the needs of others and the needs of our self, or better
said. We ask God to fulfill our lives “under the sun” and continually God is
seeking for us to get to know Him and His Righteousness, or His eternality “above
the sun”!
Matthew 6:9-11 clearly
establishes the desire of God when praying. His will is to be done in the earth
just as it is being done in heaven (I would say that we fail at that) since
most do not have a clue of Him in our daily activities. Yes we do ask for our
daily substance from Him, forgiveness and deliverance from evil things. These are
necessary requests, but the main desire of our heart should be “to know our God,
His Kingdom, His Power and His Glory; in our daily time and even forever
(eternity minded saints).
So we should strive to be
holy; and we should revamp our communication with the LORD and avoid the
repetitions of the heathen who think they will be heard by God for the many repetitious
requests that fall short of the mark. Notice in closing Matthew 6:5-8.
