The Devotional
– 1010 – Pride and the wisdom of the world
When is the last time a
fight broke out nearby? Could we have prevented it, did we start it? By the way
a fist does not constitute a fight; a fist can, but often is not the overflow or
the end result of a fight. Mostly we quarrel and battle with the mouth;
whatever is resident in the heart comes out through the mouth because the
desire to do so is a pleasure that is uncontainable in the heat of our lust to
be right. Confusion and every evil that the heart can imagine will be present
in a quarrel and when we walk away from those moments in time; even when we
feel the victory, we are defeated. THERE ARE ONLY TWO PLATFORMS OF WISDOM and
we cannot default or excuse our self too another, the damage is done,
righteousness and peace is lost.

and Challenges:
James
4:1-6
Our
personal families, our church families and even friends close by; all are
standing targets for battles and fights. If our focus is on personal desire and
human pleasure the wisdom of this mindset will develop pockets of unrest among
those around us. Being blindsided by selfish ambitions will always cripple a
relationship and if you have been on this planet any longer than six months you
know that. Our emotions have two avenues of production. One is selfish desire
and the other is selfish pleasure.
James uses
the harsh sound of murder and coveting to explain the end result of earthly
wisdom and even when we use human reasoning to ask God the render a solution to
our poor reasoning we never receive from God a solution. For example; Families
leave a church or one another all because of sin, SIN IS THE ONLY REASON
instead of reconciliation they continually feud and grumble over many years. Mons
and dads separate, children become isolated, aunts and uncles are banned and
the list of this goes on. WHY? Well one good thought is because of selfish
pride and selfish pleasures that war against the TRUTH.
But the
Wisdom that is from above is FIRST a pure and then it is a peace maker, James 3:17.
The gentleness of the Wisdom of God is the only avenue that will turn the
battle away from this demonic activity of being a friend of worldly wisdom. Now
on the one hand we may argue that battles are unavoidable and that grudges will
happen that cannot be resolved. I would suggest that we re-read James the third
chapter.
The Spirit
of God who dwells in us does not desire the conduct of individuals who fall
into sin and disrupt families, but on the other hand the Spirit of God does not
condone the conduct of refusing to seek reconciliation either. One quick
reading of 1 Corinthians will reveal the necessity of being a peace maker. God
is jealously concerned for “all people”. The good, the bad and the ugly are
beautiful in His sight. Therefore He is more than willing to give MORE GRACE;
therefore He says: “God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble”,
Proverbs 3:34-35 is a fitting solution.
