Comment:
Through the years we have observed or even played a part in
things that others may find unattractive. Sometimes “even” the things we see or
do are not understood by the observer because the mind of each of us has a
different “frame of reference”. Culture, tradition, education, religion, family
and other factors bend our understanding in things to extreme points of acceptance,
confusion or rejection. Even within a culture or religion, one mind will
observe a different interpretation than another. If this is true and it is;
then how could we ever understand Biblical Truth as God has revealed it? Such
is the case with the teaching of Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God in the
synagogue in the town of Capernaum. God draws us to Him by Faith, so while we
have a frame of reference like that listed above, God provides us with another
means to interpret the things of God. The Interpreter, called the Helper or
Comforter in John 14:15-18 and John 16:13, He is the Holy Spirit of God in all
who abide in Christ by Faith. In order to know and understand the things of God
we must be like-minded or in the Spirit. Romans 15:5 and Philippians 2:2.
Challenge:
John 6:53-59 –
Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to
you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have
no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and
I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood
is drink indeed. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He
who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living
Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so He who feeds on Me will
live because of Me. This is the bread which came down from heaven--not as your
fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live
forever." These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in
Capernaum.
In all of the commentary of the LORD Jesus Christ, these
words are most critical to understand for those who are drawn by God to His Son
in order for them to experience Faith in God. In the human mind, some cultures
have no problem with a literal interpretation, but this culture misses the
point. In most of the populated world these words of Jesus as I have said are
somewhat foreign to our frame of reference. If anyone wrongly interprets these
words of Jesus, He and His Father (who are ONE) will be rejected and they will
not walk with Him any longer.
So there is another helper, as we have also identified as
the Holy Spirit of God and as such we see that God cannot get our full
attention without our understanding that the things of God are first promised
OF THE SPIRIT. John 4:24 – God is a Spirit and those who worship Him, MUST
worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, as the TRUTH IS IN JESUS, see Ephesians
4:21. God is ONE, the Eternal Godhead (the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit)
is the only means whereby any human can understand the Words of the Bible.
In closing off this morning let’s look at a few more verses
or passages. John 1:1-2 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with
God and the Word was God. He (Jesus) was in the beginning with God. John 1:14 “And
the Word became FLESH and dwell among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of
the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. All of the Living
Word of God is GRACE AND TRUTH, if you fail to feast in the Truth, then you are
starving your soul of the food that God has provided you to keep it healthy
throughout eternity. The LORD God calls out to all of us. “O my Soul! Should you
not pant for God as the deer pants for fresh water from the babbling brook and
live forever!” Psalm 42.
