The Devotional – Faith (Part 7)

Comment: The Holy Bible is not ONE book, it is Thee Book of sixty-six books, letters, prophesies, songs and riddles, see Proverbs 1:1-33. This Book was written by men who were guided by God The Holy Spirit to reveal the LOVE of God to those who FEAR Him and the wrath of God to those who are fools. Notice Proverbs 1:7 – The FEAR of the LORD is the BEGINNING of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. The point; anyone can say that they love and worship God, but it TAKES knowledge and instruction to understand the Wisdom that God provides through His Word to love Him rightly – Romans 8:31-39.

Devotional: In Psalm 119 the psalmist is reveals to us what it means to him to be faithful to TRUTH so we will spend the rest of our time this morning looking at Psalm 119:129-136.

The Holy Bible provides DIRECTION for our personal FAITH, we LEARN that the WORD of God is powerful enough to direct our STEPS through every season of life. People who place their faith in any person, place or thing other than the CREATOR are fools. Thus the psalmist of Psalm 119 records these words in verse 133. Direct my steps by Your Word, and let no iniquity have dominion over me. 

The Hebrew word for iniquity in the passage above reveals the thought of the psalmist which is specifically idolatry. Thus the writer is saying that it is critical, that if our faith is not directed by the WORD of the Living God, then our faith is directed WRONGLY or EMPTY. See Isaiah 1:10-17 and note verse 13 where the same Hebrew word is used, note also the context of this passage. God desires a PERSONAL relationship with you and me otherwise we are filthy with RELIGIOUS practices and we are sinning against God.

There is not a day that passes that we are not oppressed by others to be religious. If we fail to be STUDENTS of the WORD of God we will become the victim. Therefore, we must study to show ourselves approved of God. Being diligent in this is not to prove to God that we are good students, but to prove to ourselves that our studies are APPROVED by God. There are no other works you or I can do that will reveal the Glory of God.

Keeping the Precepts of God provide LIGHT, His Statutes rejoice our SOUL and bring us as God’s bondservants (His children) to understand His LOVE for us. His face will SHINE on us. Rivers of water run out of our eyes as we know that the MERCIES of God are renewed for us every day, yet there are also those who reject His mercy because their iniquities (idolatries) disrespect God and His Word, plainly these fools do not keep the LAW of God.
