The Devotional - Failing the Test

The Devotional

Comment: Are there things in your day that upset you? Yes that would be a dumb question to answer in that even the question itself can be upsetting. Would it not be better if we all chose what is right, not exactly since even in this some would be upset! Thus the psalmist speaks clearly… “I hate the double minded, but I love Your law”. The law of God then is a shield or a refuge and a place of peace from all of the double minded lifestyles of living in a nation bent on idol and moral corruption.

Devotional: Psalm 119:113-120 – The nation of the writer of Psalm 119, for all practical purposes (life, liberty and happiness) has failed every test of devotion to God. If the writer of Psalm 119 is Jeremiah, he has had a front-line God ordained experience of this – Jeremiah 1:4-5. Now as the nation falls, he is allowed by God to turn to a more personal need; surviving in his love for God’s unfailing word.

Having marching orders from God is one of the most blessed experiences in life, God has a plan for each of us, however many refuse to follow, even Jeremiah sought to turn away a number of times, but his hope in the word of God always kept him near to God’s will. As with all of the prophets; Isaiah, Ezekiel and Jeremiah when things were difficult they would mourn with complaint and a common expression would sound like this “aw LORD God, you want me to do what?”

The writer of the Psalm is now faced with his own personal needs, he is shut up in prison, his devotions are personal and his plan is to survive. “Get away from me all of you evildoers, my plan and purpose for living is to keep the commandments of my God! I must ask myself, is that my plan this morning, am I upholding the Word of God as He intends for me to do? What about you? What about us, are we not like the two disciples on the road to Emmaus?

As the children of God, do we not walk along discussing the events of the day we live in; often in despair and uncertainty? Is it because we fail to understand scripture. Scripture like Psalm 119 with all of its’ commands, commandments, laws, precepts, judgments, statutes and words that challenge us to understand more fully of the love of God personally?

My prayer is that it does challenge us since Jesus explained, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ/Messiah to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” Luke 24:25-26. As children of God in this nation, we have not taken serious the freedom of living “in Christ” and our joy in the LORD today in this country is not made FULL! 1 John 1:1-4, Jesus is the WORD.
