The Devotional - In times of trouble

The Devotional
Comment: God is a very present help in time of trouble – Psalm 46 and I like what Isaiah says in Isaiah 41:1 – Fear not, for I am with YOU; be not dismayed, for I AM your God. I WILL strengthen you, YES, I will HELP you, I will UPHOLD you with My RIGHTEOUS right hand. Such comfort when I think about the LORD’s personal care of His children overwhelms my soul. King David began his Psalm 139 with “O LORD, You have searched me and known me”. David continues to relate to the LORD’s Perfect wisdom and knowledge of man. “Do we understand that every child of God has a clear path “winnowed” (the chafe has been removed) to walk. Of course some child of His might dare to say, “Well God is not in my life like He was for King David!” Like it or not; it is that you are not in God’s Life as you ought to be. There is always room for improvement, notice the last two verses of Psalm 139:23-24.

Devotional: Psalm 119:57-64 – How often in the day do we call out to the LORD, or say to Him that we would keep His WORDS? Sometimes we must think that God is some sort of desert “I will have one scoop of peace on a sugar cone of joy LORD!” then when the peace and joy are consumed and momentarily satisfied the rest of our day is in emotional turmoil. Please note the word of the Psalmist in verse 57. His spiritual food goes beyond one scoop and a cone; the psalmist says that he keeps God’s Words (plural), a banquet not a fleeting desert.

If we seek favor from or with God it must be consistent, our heart/soul needs to be active in this, the writer says in verse 58 that he entreats (earnest desire) God’s favor (presence) with his whole heart. Now it is my belief that the heart of man has two compartments; one contains our frame of reference where “good and evil” abide. The other compartment is our soul where “holiness and righteousness” abide. If I allow good and evil to rule my day and just dip into holiness and righteousness from time to time for a bit of desert I am FOOLISH. The Psalmist thinks this through and understands this.

Question: Should our daily portion be any different than his? When we think about this seriously, we will turn our spiritual feet in the direction of God’s testimonies. We will make a hasty trip to abide in His commandments. The cords of the wicked surround us literally and figuratively daily, if we use the good and evil compartment of our heart to sever those cords we are as foolish as the wicked. God is a very present help in times of trouble, He is waiting in the next compartment called the soul to apply holiness and righteousness to that moment of trouble.

Often in the night I wake up and find myself thanking God because of some Righteous moment the day before where He provided or met the need. God has perfect knowledge of me and the conditions around me, “He is a very present help in time of need. Thus His commandments of love and protection I cling to because in all things His judgment is RIGHT and I am a companion to everyone who Fears God, to those who keep His precepts. Just stop for a moment and observe this truth. “The earth is full of the mercy of God so let God continually teach you His statutes and rejoice and again I say “Rejoice!” Do not let your countenance fall, stay with the LORD of our soul.
