The Devotional
Comment: Last Thursday I raised the thought
that the psalmist came to understand his love for God and His Holy Character by
the revelation of God’s Word while he meditated on it throughout the day. I
believe that this is evident throughout Psalm 119, which for those of us who do
mediate, the Psalm is a good platform. Also I continued this thought with the
first mention of love for God’s Word found in verse 97, that would be an error,
Psalm 119:48 – My hands also I will lift up to your Commandments, which I love (have loved KJV), and I will meditate on
your statutes. So there is a presence
of love in the psalmist heart for God and His Word throughout the Psalm. While I
could spend time seeking to justify a greater love for God in the latter half
of Psalm 119 than in the first half which is also evident, I will simply say that
the psalmists’ journey of meditation for the first eleven days has truly
enhanced His love for God as we will see in His remaining eleven days.
Devotional: Psalm 119:105- 112 – “Thy Word is a
lamp to my feet and a light to my path!” While the Word of God will always be
literal in content, there are times of meditation when we must take God’s Word
to a deeper and more personal level. This is a transitional (transfer)
experience of what is literal to reach the soul of everyone who meditates. This
is out there on the limb for some but I make no apology, if you desire a love
for God and His Word, you have to know that love gets life from the soul and
not from the flesh – 1 John 2:15-17.
A personal
soul abides in the flesh of every human alive, it is not temporal unlike the
flesh it is eternal; in other words the eternal soul in our temporal body goes
where you take it daily. The intentions of the soul is always faced toward
eternity, while the flesh intentions are always faced toward the world. Ecclesiastes
3:9-12. If I chose to I can confirm in my soul a strong path pointed toward
eternity for my feet, or I can chose as well a strong path in my heart toward
the world. The choice is our own personal pilgrimage in this body that houses
our heart and soul.
God’s Word
will always be brighter, yet there is much affliction awaiting the child of God
who refuses to be the salt and light to those around him or her who live in
darkness, Matthew 5:13-16. Picture if you will the suffocating soul of the
saint that is housed in the self-righteous character of Isaiah 64:6. Revival is
not national event, it is personal and it begins with YOU and ME. God’s
covenant to each of us is “Amen”, or “So Be It” when we pray out a freewill
offering to the LORD to feed our soul.
He will
teach His Judgments, Precepts, Statutes, Testimonies, Commands and Laws to us,
also note that this process of teaching is our heritage, to prepare for
eternity. So I sense that the more of God’s Word that is resident in our soul,
the greater the capacity of our soul to enjoy eternity. We are not to be
forgetful hearers of the Word of God, we must bend our heart/soul in the
direction of eternity and be willing to perform God’s Statutes to the very end
and forever, James 1:21-22.
