Comment: So, I have
sought to unveil the false pretense of worshiping God through celebration
without presenting a clear gospel. These events in many churches spend hours on
Sunday praising the gods of music, emotion and entertainment. They also seek justification
from God by holding a Sunday evening or Wednesday evening prayer service and
Bible Study. While everyone is invited to these, only a small number of folks
will show up, these members are the faithful few and all of the Sunday crowd
are back in the world.
Another side to this coin, so to speak; I mean
why pick on the ‘celebrating God folks' if there is nothing better. Of course, there
is something better. In Psalm 119:160 the psalmist pens these words; “The
entirety of Your Word is Truth, and EVERY one of Your Righteous Judgments
endures forever”. We need to know the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27).
Devotional: Now for the hard part. Can there be another
gospel? God forbid that anyone would think such a thought! Still, if we are not
careful there are trends in some local churches that seek salvation through knowledge
that is to mix with the “entirety of God’s Word” with ideologies that deny the
Person, Work and Word of our God and Savior Jesus Christ. Now, like the men and
women who only come to church to celebrate the love of God, there also is a
trend of people who seek salvation by the mixing false religious ideologies with the whole counsel of God.
The apostle Paul in his
second epistle to Timothy writes clearly about workers in the ministry who are disapproved
of God. The messages of these men, men like Hymenaeus and Philetus who strayed
from the truth, regarding the resurrection or any other teaching that seeks to
overthrow the faith of some ought to be considered anathema.
I would encourage us this
morning to read the entire second epistle of Paul to Timothy; we must endure in
sound doctrinal teaching of the Living Word of God. If we died with Christ (And
we did; see Galatians 2:20) we shall live with Him. If we endure, (sound
doctrine, is enduring) we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him (denying is
listening to false teaching), He will deny what is false. If we are faithless, (straying from truth,
faithless) He remains faithful. God cannot deny Himself. (2 Timothy 2:11-14)
So again, we must be willing
to teach and preach the Living Word of God, the apostle explains it this way in
2 Timothy 4:2-4 – Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season.
Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time
will come (it has come) when they will not endure sound doctrine, because they
have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will
turn their ears away from TRUTH and be turned aside to fables.
