Comment: Lull-a-bi
and good night, I do remember those days of growing up with parents who looking
for a bit of free time would sometimes be devious to get us off to bed. Of
course, to remember those days, I did need to be a little older than four or
five months or even four or five years for that matter. Similar things in
matters pertaining to the evil heart of man and the demonic attractive world
effectively lull the child of God to sleep, causing great confusion and loss of
faith in many saints. Sleep is mentioned nine times in Proverbs, I have
selected Proverbs 6:9-10 to illustrate the subject of this devotional - A little sleep, a little slumber, a
little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come on you like a thief
and scarcity like an armed man. Notice
the condition of the sleeper, he becomes a thief and one who robs with
intent to do harm. Does this describe some saints as imitators of the devil’s
character? See John 10:7. Are we not called saints because we are to become
like Christ? Notice that Ephesians 5:1 sets our character to be as one that
imitates the character of God.
Devotional: Galatians 2 is a favorite chapter of mine
since the words in this chapter have made my walk of faith stronger in the
LORD. I think that most of us have struggled over time with the thought of
failure when it comes to pleasing God. “It is impossible to please God; without
FAITH, faith in God comes first.” Hebrews 11:6 – Without faith it is impossible
to please Him (God), for he who comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder
of those who seek Him diligently. Now I ask you did you get the intent of
these words? Best not to answer because most do not!
If my way to God is showing God how pleasing I am to Him and
those around me; then this is not a way or path that pleases God. God rewards
those who SEEK Him, not those who TRY TO please Him, God is pleased with the
obedience of His only begotten Son who is JESUS CHRIST. If your faith is in
Christ then your works will be done through Christ; THEN God will be pleased and
the results will be rewarding to you.
Galatians 2:20-21 pulls this together for me, notice: “I
have been crucified with Christ (past tense); it is no longer I who live, but
Christ lives in me (present tense); and the life that I now live in the
flesh, I live by FAITH (not works) in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
Himself for me. This is to say; “I do not SET ASIDE the grace of God for the
works of my, self-will that I seek to obey, because if I do, then Christ and my
flesh were crucified in vain. God has called us to walk by FAITH and lay aside
the deeds of the FLESH!
